It's Honors Week at SCHC!

We're thrilled to debut the first annual South Carolina Honors College Honors Week. It's a week full of events designed to celebrate achievements, recognize talents and showcase the Honors experience. See you there!


MONDAY, APRIL 3RD

"Nerdy for Thirty": 30-minute course sampling

“Enroll” in some of the most popular Honors courses for a day. Seven of our incredible faculty will be teaching short lectures (20-30 mins) from the Honors courses they teach.

Bedtime Stories featuring John Dozier

Put on your pajamas and enjoy milk and cookies while listening to a bedtime story read by USC Chief Diversity Officer & Director of Community Engagement, John Dozier.

Study Abroad Photo Contest Reception

Explore the world through the lens of your classmates! Enjoy a reception with light snacks and beverages while celebrating the captivating photography from Honors students’ study abroad experiences and vote on your favorite!



Honors Family Feud

Survey says that you should join us for Honors Family Feud! Join us for an evening of laughs as you watch the deans, advisors, and staff of the Honors College play a game of Family Feud!

Honors Beyond the Classroom Awards Celebration

Celebrate the incredible beyond the classroom experiences Honors College students have had within the past year. Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres while we recognize this year’s nominees and winners of the Beyond the Classroom Awards. We'll be done by 6:00 to give you plenty of time to get to the Darius Rucker show and Experimental Music Workshop concert. No dress code, come as you are!


Experimental Music Workshop Concert

SCHC students in the legendary Experimental Music Workshop team up with composer/percussionist Tim Feeney (University of Alabama) and flutist/soprano Alice Teyssier (International Contemporary Ensemble) for a concert of exciting sound making. Along with Feeney and Teyssier, the Workshop will present music by Pauline Oliveros as well as the the world premiere of Feeney’s “Another Pattern” for two duos and ensemble. Details here.

Chips, Dips, and Internships

Meet Honors interns from Kessler, USC School of Medicine, Camera Pictures in CA, Boeing, The Walt Disney Company and Eastman Chemical to learn how to land an awesome internship and how to get Honors Beyond the Classroom credit for it!

Open Mic Night

Honors Residence Hall Outdoor Patio and Lawn

Bring your voice, instrument, poetry, etc. and share your creative talents with the Honors community! If you don’t want to perform, just bring a blanket and revel in the talent of your peers while enjoying some beverages and snacks!

Honors College Book Exchange

Buy a copy of your favorite book and drop it off at Harper 222 before Friday, April 7th to receive a ticket. Bring that ticket back to Harper 222 on Friday, April 7th or the week after to pick up someone else’s favorite book for you to keep. Please include a little note about why you love the book you chose as your favorite and place it inside the book before you turn it in.

Participate in the Office of Fellowships and Scholar Program’s Intent to Apply process

To participate, look at the searchable INFO database.

Schedule a meeting with a national fellowships advisor to discuss your interests, and then complete the Intent to Apply form by Friday, April 7th to express your intent to apply for specific competitions next year.

Gamecock Pantry Food Drive

The Gamecock Pantry is in need of food and the Honors College is helping to provide food aid for the campus community. The Gamecock Pantry is in specific need of: noodles (ramen, pasta), cereal and granola bars, snacks (cookies, chips, crackers), oatmeal and grits, jelly/jam, tuna, salsa/dip, tomato sauce, canned beans, canned fruit, juice, milk (soy, almond, evaporated, boxed), and water in bottles and gallons. Donation bins will be located all week in DeSaussure, Harper, HRH, and at the Information Desk in the Russell House.

The Smithsonian Open Door Externship is designed to open the doors to the Smithsonian’s vast collections, facilities, and experts in order to provide firsthand experiences to students interested in making connections across the Smithsonian’s broad range of disciplines, this externship fulfills the Honors Beyond the Classroom requirement. The Carolina Global Scholars Program emphasizes intellectual engagement with global affairs, second (or third) language development, and bona fide international experience in one of a number of service opportunities and offers additional pathways to the completion of GLD.
