Drawing Classes

 Botanical Artist Carol Ann Morley continues to offer her The Pleasure of Sketching (SA 9), Drawing Spring Flowers (SA 10), Drawing from Nature (SA 12), and Colored Pencil Techniques (SA 13). Carol is a master draftsman who knows how to teach drawing in a way that is clear and comprehensive. I recommend her classes for anyone who wants to improve their drawing skills, or even for those who haven’t a clue, but have the desire to learn.

  

Hand Building in Clay with Julie Marvin

Julie Marvin continues her Hand Building with Clay (SA 20) class on Wednesday mornings beginning February 5th. Explore basic hand building construction methods, focusing on pinch pots and slab work. Use molds and templates along with stamps and sprigs for decoration. Surface treatments and glazing basics will also be covered in this relaxed class designed for the curious.

  

Rebecca Emerson returns with three All Levels Wheel throwing (SA 19 A, B, C) classes beginning February 10th. Learn essential techniques for throwing cylinders, cups, bowls and more, with demonstrations of various surface decoration and glazing methods to enhance your work.

  

   

Seacoast

Tom Glover's Seacoast (SA 2) class begins Monday February 2nd. Using the seacoast as fodder for your creative imagination, work from photos, sketches and even memories of Seacoast locales, in the medium of your choice. Artists who worked in the seacoast will be referenced, such as Tarbell, Fiske, Cheney, Hopper and more. Under Tom’s expert guidance, look at diverse styles and approaches to subject matter and compare traditional techniques with modernist influences.

Alice Carroll offers her Jewelry & Metalsmithing (SA 21) class on Wednesday afternoons beginning February 12. Alice is a thorough and generous instructor who brings out the best in her students, no matter their level of expertise. Learn the basic techniques in making jewelry and metal objects, including hot and cold connections, piercing, surface decoration, light forging, forming and stone setting.
 
Still Life & Figure in Watercolor
for High School Students

Attention High School Students!! Watercolorist Russel Whitten offers an eight week Still Life & Figure in Watercolor for High School Students (SA 8) on Wednesday evenings. Scholarship help is available at www.sanctuaryartsconnects.com . Students will learn how to best control watercolor through the means of washes and other techniques with step-by-step demonstrations. Work from still life objects and a clothed model reference. Color mixing, drawing and understanding how forms exist visually with the use of perspective will play as key elements in this class. Russel is a daily painter who loves to teach his passion for watercolor.

  

Classical Figure Painting

Joshua Langstaff, an amazingly talented figure painter, offers Classical Figure Painting (SA 5) on Tuesday evenings beginning February 4th. You’ll paint directly from a live model, guided by step-by-step demos. First sketch and accurate drawing and transfer it to your canvas or panel. Then learn all about layering to create a beautifully detailed finished piece. Channel the Old Masters and create a masterpiece of your own!

  

Joshua Langstaff also offers Atmospheric Portrait Drawing (SA 14), a two day weekend workshop. Working with graphite powder to tone the paper, students will then eraseout the lights and deepen the shadows to sculpt a 3 dimensional presence.
