Sydney Sparrow offers Painting the Still Life in Oil (SA 7). She is, by far, the best at teaching color mixing I have found. She will help you work to complete realistic, vibrant paintings from life. Addressing both direct painting as well as layered painting, from a drawing to an underpainting, to a finished piece, Sydney is the perfect guide.

Botanical Drawing; Rendering with Pen & Ink (SA 9) with Carol Morley. Throughout history, the crow quill pen has long been a favorite of Botanical Artists. Carol is very practiced in this rather esoteric art form and is a terrific teacher as well. Come learn how to hold the pen to draw a variety of strokes, from exquisite flowing lines to rich tones and textures as you learn to capture the beauty of garden flowers and other natural forms in this expressive medium.

Carol Morley is also offering Drawing Spring Flowers (SA 10) as well as Building Drawing Skills (SA 2).

Tom Glover still has room in his Monday night Birds, Flying Towards Spring (SA 4). What a hopeful and lovely topic to explore. Examine birds, their habits, habitats, structures while you try to capture their beauty. Work from photos and sketches and explore how our aviary friends played a role in the art world of the past.

Classical Figure Painting

Classical Figure Painting (SA 12) is taught by master painter Joshua Langstaff who recently completed teaching a very successful Classical Portrait Intensive. Joshua's class is based on the classical atelier system of training painters. Extensive demonstrations and working with a live model for all of the sessions will guarantee a rich experience. Artists as disparate as Jean-Leon Gerome, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassat, and Pablo Picasso all trained in this system. We are lucky to have Joshua teaching here.

Wheel Throwing

Bob Ellis's Monday Wheel Throwing (SA 19A) still has room for any who would like to get their hands in clay and learn from an experienced potter. This is a high fire stoneware class for both beginning and intermediate students. Studio time is available as part of these classes.

Sculpting the Figure from Life

Sculpting the Figure from Life (SA 18) is taught by Anthony Alemany. Using a live model, students will work through a single course long pose at 1/3 scale. Classes include armature building, demonstrations and one-on-one feed back. A systematic study of proportions, anatomy, observation, interpretation, special techniques; all are a part of learning from this very skilled instructor.

Contemplative Art Practices

Contemplative Art Practices (SA 5) returns with former monk Sean Kramer. Begin each class working with  body, breath, and mind. Sean introduces a variety of contemplative art practices: mandalas and yantras, spontaneous and intuitive art making, working with symbols, drawing your journey, surrealist techniques, and more. So let go of your inner critic and enjoy the process of creating under the guidance of this deep thinking philosopher.

Jewelry & Metalsmithing

Alice Carroll still has room in her Jewelry & Metalsmithing (SA 20B) class, as well as her one morning Linked Bracelet (SA 21) workshop. These classes are great for beginners, covering the use of basic hand tools and the primary techniques in making jewelry and metal objects. More advanced students will receive on on one help in applying advanced techniques to their designs..
