 sanctuaryarts

Get acquainted with our studio and learn the basics of throwing clay on the pottery wheel. In this beginner class, lessons will include centering clay, wheel throwing techniques, trimming pieces, surface decoration, and the process of glazing and firing. Dress for mess and bring an old towel.

Director's Notes

I welcome the addition of Ceramics instructor, Kim Hanson. She has studied and worked under the direction of functional potter/teacher Lindsey Howarth who teaches here at Sanctuary Arts, as well as sculpture & functional artist/teacher Erica Hood, handbuilding instructor Paisley Hanson, and UNH pottery adjunct professor Emily Wernig. Currently, Kim works as a studio-tech at Sanctuary Arts and is a teacher assistant at Chase’s Garage. Her love of new teaching strategies and creating a positive open environment for students to explore and improve skills is a driving force behind her work. As an educator she shares with students that mistakes are valuable and they are to be dissected, explored, and learned from.  Kim will be teaching a beginner wheel throwing 8 week class called Beginner Spin Session (SA 26). This class will run for 8 weeks on Tuesdays 1 – 4 beginning August 8 and ending September 26. You can sign up online at www.sanctuaryarts.org

On July 29 (rain date July 30) from 5 - 8 we are celebrating Summer with a pizza party fundraiser for our non-profit scholarship entity Sanctuary Arts Connects. Enjoy hot pizza pies from an outdoor gas kiln, while music and merriment surround you at the Sanctuary Arts campus. Toss a $10 (suggested) donation in the bucket for our non-profit scholarship program. Our gardens, music and a bouncy house for the kids are ready for enjoyment.

Sanctuary Arts Connects strives to create an environment where arts education is not limited to those with financial security. We know that art classes are extracurricular for many and breaking down the financial barrier is our way of including more voices. So come party with us for a good cause. (Plus our kiln baked pizzas are simply amazing!)
To donate to our scholarship fund, go to www.sanctuaryartsconnects.com.

We still have room in a couple of summer classes.
