Alice Carroll offers a 6 week Jewelry & Metalsmithing for High School Students (SA 22). This beginning intensive will cover the use of basic hand tools and the primary techniques in making jewelry and metal objects. We will cover hot and cold connections, piercing, surface decoration, light forging, forming, and basic stone settings. Students are encouraged to create their own designs. Bring a sketchbook to class. The class will be a mixture of demonstrations, lectures, and studio time.

Director's Notes
  

 

 I am happy to introduce Margaret Dwyer, a new Eliot resident and watercolor instructor for our Summer classes. Margaret has  more than forty years of experience in painting and teaching different themes in watercolor, she has taught students of all levels. As an artist in residence, she has developed and led multiple public art programs for Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock, VT. Other teaching venues include museum programs, galleries, schools, art centers, and her own private studios. Her watercolors have been included in the “Splash-America’s Best Watercolors” series of fine art books published by North Light, and “How did you Paint That?”, by International Artist books. She has been a featured watercolorist in fine art magazines such as “American Artist”, “Artist Magazine”, “Manhattan Arts”, and as a showcase award winner in “Southwest Art”.  Her watercolors have been included in many national and international exhibitions. She holds an MFA and BFA in visual art. A committed studio artist, she is constantly exploring new themes with traditional and experimental techniques.

Enjoy drawing the flowers and blossoms of Spring in Botanical Illustrator Carol Ann Morley’s Drawing Spring Flowers (SA 9), a 4 week class, which meets Thursdays from 2 – 5, April 4 – 25. From bud to open flower, learn how to observe the beauty of natural forms through a series of sketches and create a pleasing composition for a more finished rendering. This class is open to students of all levels. Work in graphite or colored pencils or the medium of your choice.

a workshop with Joshua Langstaff for 3 Days, Friday, Saturday & Sunday April 19, 20, 21

Enhance your portrait drawing skills as you delve into a unique and evocative technique. Begin with the application of graphite powder to tone the paper, then work both directions by erasing out the lights and deepening the shadows to sculpt a three-dimensional presence. Elevate your work with the final touches-white gouache paint and an alchemical mixture of powdered graphite and alcohol and learn how to create powerful portraits.

  

 

  Hinged Bracelet with

Alice Carroll offers a morning Hinged Bracelet (SA 20) workshop on Saturday April 13 from 10 – 1. This class focusses on teaching the art of creating a functional hinge on a bracelet, enabling it to open and close smoothly. Students will learn various techniques, including measuring, and texturing metal through hammering, stamping and using the rolling mill. Additionally the course covers soldering the hinge to the bracelet, understanding the concept of the hinge’s functionality, and crafting a hinge to the clasp on the opposite end of the bracelet. Each student will leave the class with a beautiful hinged bracelet.
