Gifts from the Ocean; Cool Watercolor Techniques  with Margaret Dwyer

 

 

Margaret Dwyer’s Gifts from the Ocean; Cool Watercolor Techniques (SA 9) meets on Saturday June 6 from 9:30 – 3:30. Come learn glazing, masking, and other cool watercolor techniques from a watercolor master. Subject matter includes ocean treasures such as shells, rocks, fish, seaweed, and sea creatures. There will be lots of specimens and references on hand to inspire you!

 

Intro to Jewelry

with Alice Carroll

 

 

 

Alice Carroll’s Intro to Jewelry (SA 13) meets for 8 weeks beginning Wednesday June 10 from 10 – 1. Through demonstrations and lots of time to work, students will learn basic techniques such as sawing, soldering, riveting, forging, forming and stone setting. Alice also offers two one session workshops; Spinner Ring (SA 14) and Fisherman’s Knot Bracelet (SA 15) .

Join us for a three-day plein air workshop with Joshua Langstaff; Trees & Rocks: Painting the Coastal Landscape

 Set on a remarkable private estate on the Maine coast, with access to rocky shoreline, wooded groves, and expansive gardens, we’ll have a wide range of compelling subjects to explore. Focusing on trees and rocks, this course emphasizes approaching the landscape through clear, specific points of interest.

Antoinette Schultze's  Hand Carving: Wood or Soft Stone (SA 16) meets for 6 weeks beginning Saturday June 13 at Antoinette’s sculpture studio in Eliot. Learn to block out your object of choice in wood or soft stone as you study with a carver who truly knows how to demonstrate the magic of subtractive sculpture.

En Plein Air Landscape Painting Workshop

with Sean Beavers 

 

  

Sean Beavers returns with his ever-popular En Plein Air Landscape Painting Workshop (SA 1), a 4 - day intensive that meets Friday through Monday June 19 – 22. Sean begins with an in-studio discussion of materials and techniques and demonstrates his expertise with the challenges of plein air painting: working directly from nature, constantly changing light, and capturing the essence of a landscape quickly. Students then travel to a variety of sites as they learn to capture the essence of the seacoast in paint.

 

 

 

 

The Trouble with Water 

with Tom Glover 

  

Water is one of the most difficult, elusive, and frustrating things for any landscape or seascape painter to tackle. Tom Glover’s The Trouble with Water (SA 4) attempts to illuminate the variety of solutions and techniques others have used to find methods to solve this painting dilemma. Tom’s 6-week class meets Mondays from 2 – 5 beginning June 1st.

 

Portrait Painting

from the Heart

Joshua Langstaff’s Portrait Painting from the Heart (SA 6) begins Tuesday June 2nd from 6 – 9 for 8 weeks. Learn the foundations of classical portrait painting, as you take and select strong reference images using a live model. You may choose to work from these images, or bring in a reference of a loved one, learning to translate those references into a clear, dimensional painting. Students will be guided through a structured process including drawing, proportion, under painting and flesh tone development. By the end of the session, you’ll. Have a finished portrait and a stronger understanding of how to approach portrait painting with confidence and clarity.
