Soft Stone

Carving

Antoinette Schultze opens her Eliot studio to offer Soft Stone Carving (SA 13). Toni's preferred mediums range from wood to soapstone to large scale granite sculpture. Working in her studio is an inspiration since you are surrounded by monumental granite pieces on the grounds and in her studio. She is a generous teacher who can sometimes be persuaded to sing opera.

Want to design and make your own knife? Take Beginner Bladesmithing (SA 18). Learn basic bladesmithing techniques with Josh Dow, one of the Green Foundry proprietors on the property at Sanctuary Arts. Hang out in the Foundry with him as he teaches crafting the blade, heat tempering, and applying a handle.

Consider a gift to our Non Profit scholarship entity- Sanctuary Arts Connects.

Principles of Classical Drawing

Joshua Langstaff has returned to the seacoast after a 6 year absence and we are grateful he's back. His Principles of Classical Drawing (SA 6) is a great way to begin the study of drawing- arguably the most basic and important tool for an artist to master. This is an excellent class for high school students wishing to improve their portfolios, or for anyone wanting to get a solid foundation in drawing more analytically.

Finding Design

Finding Design (SA 2) with Alastair Dacey is for those who wish the compositions in their paintings were better. Work on value studies inspired by nature, creating light, dark harmony under the guidance of an artist who is passionate about painting and is an excellent teacher.

Watercolor & Drawing

Russel Whitten offers Watercolor & Drawing
(SA 3). Russel paints every day and his watercolors just get better and better. He is a charming fellow who loves to teach what can be a difficult medium. Learning to master watercolor is so rewarding. The jewel like tones, the immediacy of the medium, just the sheer beauty of the translucent effects one learns to manipulate can be so rewarding. So come enjoy some afternoons with a true master watercolorist.

Watercolor Basics for the Absolute (or Frustrated) Beginner

Bill Paarlberg's Watercolor Basics for the Absolute (or Frustrated) Beginner (SA 10) is a one session workshop designed to acquaint folks with this challenging medium. This class starts at the very beginning, with how to use a brush to grab water, how to use your pallet, how to mix paint, and how to use your brush to make basic marks and washes. This short class will give you the confidence necessary to continue learning and painting.

Jewelry & Metalsmithing

Alice Carroll is back offering Jewelry & Metalsmithing (SA 15) as well as a couple of one session workshops (SA 16 Spinner RingWorkshop) and (SA 17 Forged Bracelet). You can tell Alice loves to teach. She is generous with her expertise and a patient teacher for this rather technical, but beautiful art.
