SENIOR SCHOLARS

 " Can You Help?"

In the 48 years of its history, Senior Scholars, an all-volunteer organization, has never before asked for donations. We are asking now. “Can you help?”

COVID-19 has altered our lives in ways we never thought possible. We have all made sacrifices as we looked about, assessed the risks, and determined the changes we needed to make in order to be safe and responsible.

We have missed the chance to socialize in Wolfe Hall – to gather around the coffee table, shake hands, and share smiles. We’ve missed the Lunch Bunch and the Spring & Holiday Luncheons, the chance to enjoy a retreat at Wildacres.

Thanks to the masterful work of our tech team, Senior Scholars at Queens began to meet virtually in September. We have continued to be “senior scholars,” continued “Learning for Life,” the core of our mission, as we listen to speakers beamed into our homes thanks to Zoom Webinars. As many as 300 devices log in to the lectures each week, and we hope yours is one of them. Assuming that many of those log-ins represent two people, our weekly attendance is probably 450 to 500 – a great success by any measure.

Though the pandemic is by no means over, we have begun to plan for the future.  When members return for in-person meetings in Wolfe Hall, perhaps in limited numbers at first, we will need to stream our programs to those who cannot join us in person.

To do both creates additional expense for the purchase of equipment and software licenses.

This is where we tell you how you can help.

WE NEED $7,500!

We recognize, of course, that some of our members may not be in a position to donate at this time. If that is the case for you, we understand.

For those who are able to donate, we appreciate any support you can offer. Your names will be entered into a raffle for spots on two private tours generously provided by the Mint Museum (dates and times to be arranged later).
