Cancellation of Friday
Meetings through May 29

Dear Members,
Hoping this message finds you well and coping with this time of uncertainty.
Through an email vote, our Senior Scholars Board has canceled Friday morning meetings beyond the initial cancellation date of April 10 and extended the cancellation through May 29 to comply with recommendations and precautionary health mandates for group meetings in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus/COVID-19.  The Board will hold ZOOM online board meetings on April 8 and May 13 rather than holding a physical group meeting.
Currently Providence United Methodist Church is in a lockdown status and has not announced a date when normal activities will resume.
May 29 would have been the last Friday meeting of the first half of the 2020 calendar - summer break would have begun after that Friday meeting.  Meetings are set to resume on September 11 (the second Friday of September), and the 2020 year concludes with a meeting on November 20.
We have had conversations with our spring speakers and they have agreed with the cancellation policy for the first half of 2020.  In fact, they have welcomed the policy and some have suggested that they were about to regretfully cancel their presentations.
Our curriculum committee chairs Don Campbell and Ken Brown (GDS) are in touch with speakers for September, October and November.  Over the summer we will continue to communicate with those speakers as we monitor federal, state and local guidelines relating to a safe time to resume group meetings.  We will update you as time goes on.
We will also continue to consult with Dr. Kevin Soden for his trusted expertise.  You will find his informative video, recorded several days ago, on our senior scholars web site.
I am looking forward to a Friday morning when I can once again say, "Good Morning.  Welcome to Senior Scholars."  It will be a pleasure to see you all again.
I wish you well - my hope is that we can all find some meaningful moments during these unsettling times and continue to count our blessings along the way.  Please stay well.
My respect,
Walt Romano

A new coronavirus called COVID-19 is infecting the world.  What do we know about it? Who is at greatest risk? How is it transmitted? What can I do to reduce my chances of getting this virus? These are just some of the questions that I will address in my presentation to help us all stay informed and avoid panic.
