 Dr. Brown teaches courses on Chinese domestic and foreign policy; East Asian foreign policy; cyber security policy; privacy, ethics, and governance of big data; and law and policy of the Internet of Things. She received her  Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in political science from the University of Michigan. Her Ph.D. concentration in Chinese studies included field research in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China and internships with the American Institute in Taiwan and the United Nations. She conducted post-doctoral research at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr.  Brown’s current research addresses China’s international role in science and technology policy development. She has published work on China’s second-generation ID card and biometrics in the health care policy.


She has lectured extensively on cyber security and how artificial intelligence and big data play a role with cyber security.  Her presentation will also explore the need for coherent Government policies by the major players to promote the availability of Artificial Intelligence worldwide and ensure the restriction of action by “bad players” while at the same time maintaining adherence to free speech. Dr. Brown will also discuss the the role Big Data plays in the use of Artificial Intelligence.  It is a difficult balance act of balancing policies which promote global use of AI while protecting our national security

Renewals are $20 per person and new memberships are $30 (includes $10 for your name tag). Checks should be made payable to Senior Scholars. Please bring the correct amount if paying in cash.
You can speed up the renewal process by having your green 2019 Membership Card and $20 in your hand when you come to the Membership Desk. It is not necessary to complete a membership form for renewals unless your address, phone number or email address has changed.
You can also renew or join by mail with a completed membership form. The mailing address is on the membership form
If you use mail you will need to stop by the Membership Desk to pick up your new membership card. Your membership card is what gets you in the door at our weekly meetings--it shows that you are a current member.
We have quite a few name tags...If we are holding yours please come get it. Your name tag lets us know who you are and as some of us have "senior moments". It is much easier to converse if we know your name. Please always wear your name tag. If the magnet is a problem for you we have a remedy.
