CELEBRATING WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY

"Once we are labelled with Down Syndrome, people think we cannot decide...Please understand that my extra chromosome does not make me a robot," shared Athlete leader Sahil Singh, Special Olympics Bharat. 

Sahil delivered an eloquent and inspirational speech on World Down Syndrome Day at United Nations 2020 Virtual Event where he shares his thoughts and feelings and his experiences with the Special Olympics movement.

FURTHERING SOLIDARITY & INCLUSION
WITH REFUGEES

Special Olympics Asia Pacific President Dipak Natali and Special Olympics Board Director Nils Kastberg got valuable insights into efforts to promote inclusion for athletes with intellectual disabilities in Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) recently.

They also attended the International Conference on 40 Years of Hosting Afghan Refugees in Pakistan: A New Partnership for Solidarity, organized by the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, learning more about the needs of one of the most isolated and underserved groups in the world - refugees with intellectual disabilities.

FWD & SO INDONESIA
CELEBRATES FRIENDSHIP WITH FUTSAL

Together with FWD Life, Special Olympics Indonesia (SOINA) organised a Futsal Friendship Game while inviting the media and bloggers to join them as they promote inclusion through Unified Sports.

 

This is the third year of FWD Life and SOINA's partnership in Unified Schools and Athlete Leadership, aligned with the same goal of helping people with intellectual disabilities get the same opportunities  to be able to live independently, confidently and be professionally active.

BEN HAACK LAUNCHES PODCAST

In his inaugural podcast, Special Olympics Australia athlete leader and Special Olympics Board Director Ben Haack sits down with Queensland's Head of Delegation Chris Nott to discuss all things inclusion, Special Olympics, and the upcoming and first ever National Junior Games in Australia.

SO NEW ZEALAND
UNVEILS CHAMPION CROWDSOURCED LOGO

SO New Zealand ran a competition in 2019 seeking a logo for the upcoming National Summer Games (NSG) Hamilton, 2021.

The winning entry was by Sarah-Jane Hudson, Caitlin Thomas, Sarah Griffin and Deshan Walallavita who worked together as a team. It will be featured on the NSG website, social media and merchandise.

 


SO FIJI EMBARKS ON
BADMINTON TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

Special Olympics Fiji together with Badminton World Federation Shuttle Time and Badminton Oceania recently embarked on a training session at the Suva Special School where it saw 15 participants including teachers, parents, and persons with intellectual disabilities take part in the session.

Starting from classroom learning on basic grips, basic court movement and skills, serving & feeding, overhead and underarm hitting, front & mid court play, they also had headed outdoors for practical sessions.

SO PAKISTAN HOLDS CITY GAMES AT AIRBASE

 

Special Olympics Pakistan held its City Games 2020 in collaboration with PAF Base Faisal, which saw participation of more than 600 athletes from 35 special schools across Karachi across three sports.
