Sports Association Newsletter

The Sports Association is dedicated to improving the lives of persons with physical disabilities through adaptive sports and recreation.

Dear Friends of the Sports Association,

Recently, the governor announced a pause on team sports in CT due to the increasing COVID numbers.  In response, we have placed our team sports on hold.  We are still able to hold our seated yoga, archery and new this month, boccia, but we have decreased the number of participants for these in-person programs to a maximum of 4 people.  Our seated yoga classes continue to have the option to participate virtually.  We are working on launcing a virutal class series in the new year.  We hope that you are able to take our survey (if you haven't already) and let us know about your preferences regarding virtual and in-person programs.

We are also excited to announce that we are planning to hold our ski and snowboard program this winter.  Join us for the Discovery Night on December 17th to learn about this year's program.

Our number one priority as we continue to add programs is the health and safety of all participants, volunteers, and staff.  Take a look at our updated policies and procedures following the programs section of the newsletter for more information.

Feel free to contact the Sports Association at 203-284-2772 or visit our website at www.gaylord.org/sports for more information. We hope you stay healthy and enjoy the holiday season!

All the best,

The Sports Association

News and Updates
Sports Association Survey
We want to hear from you!  The pandemic continues to bring challenges to the adaptive sports community and we are looking for your feedback on the best way to move forward with our programming for 2021. Your participation in the survey will help us to understand your preferences regarding in-person and virtual programs as well as your interest in specific program areas. Your feedback is valuable and we appreciate your time in completing this survey as we work hard to plan our adaptive sports programs for 2021!
New Tennis Courts
The Gaylord Tennis Courts have been repaired and refinished!  Thanks to generous donations from the Spring River Private Trust and Pamela Werth, we were able to complete much needed repairs and resurfacing of the tennis courts.  The courts are primarily utilized for the Gaylord Sports Association Hornets Wheelchair Tennis Team however, the new courts will also be used for Pickleball!  Pickleball lines were added to the courts and this sport will be introduced by the Gaylord Sports Association in the spring of 2021. The newly finished courts were completed in October and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Monday, November 16th to recognize and thank the donors who contributed to the project.
Sled Hockey Team News
The Wolfpack Sled Hockey Team began their 2020-21 season in November at Westminster School with new social distancing protocols in place.  Practices are currently paused due to the Governor's mandate.  We will start up again as soon as we have clearance and it is safe to do so!
