News
Jillian Harpin in People Magazine
Jillian Harpin, a Gaylord Graduate and a member of the Gaylord Sports Association was recently featured in People Magazine!  Jillian was only 23 years old when she lost her balance while sitting on the railing of a hotel balcony in Mexico, falling three stories to the ground.  Jillian came to Gaylord for rehab and is now doing things she never dreamt of, including the Gaylord Gauntlet 5K Obstacle Mud Run this past June.  To read about and watch Jillian's story of life and recovery after a spinal cord injury, click here.
Dave Parcells Madison Triathlon
On Saturday, September 8, six athletes from the Gaylord Sports Association Paratriathlon Team competed in the Dave Parcells Triathlon at the Madison Surf Club.  The team began group training sessions in the spring which included swim practices, adaptive cycle rides and run sesssions under the guidance of coach Doug Levens.  One relay team and 3 individual competitors competed in the event that included a 1/2 mile swim in Long Island Sound, a 13 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run through the streets of Madison.  Congratulations Team!  We look forward to next year and welcoming new members to the Team!
Veterans Golf Class
The Gaylord Sports Association Veterans 6-week golf class series was a huge success! Thirteen veterans were able to learn and practice the game of golf at Sleeping Giant Golf Course in Hamden, CT. Participants practiced driving, chipping, and had the opportunity to play on the course. These classes were offered at no cost and included instruction by PGA professionals and experienced volunteers who are trained in adaptive techniques and equipment. We would like to thank Sleeping Giant Golf Course, the West Haven VA, Disabled Sports USA, the US Department of Veteran's Affairs, and all our instructors who together helped to make this a successful class. We are excited about continuing this venture next year. To read the article in the New Haven Register, click here.
