Sunrise Drive FFO Digest
Apr 19, 2016 - Vol. 1 Issue #8

With a little more than a month to go before school gets out, we are winding down with events, but please support the Spring Book Fair, April 25-29 in the MPR, and join us at the Fine Arts Gala on Friday, April 29th from 5:30-7:30.

We appreciate all the family involvement this school year. Our events and fundraisers like Mathathon wouldn't have been possible without your support. We hope you agree that the FFO and family participation is instrumental to the well rounded education our children recieve at Sunrise.

As the saying goes..." It takes a village to raise a child," and fortunately at Sunrise we have a great village. The Book Fair is in desperate need of more volunteers to stay open the entire time, so please volunteer to help at the book fair and check
out other opportunites at

FFO Meeting - Please join us for the April FFO meeting this Friday, Apr 22nd, at 8:15 in the Teacher's Lounge (not the library). We will be discussing the upcoming Fine Arts Gala, Book Fair, Teacher Appreciation Week, and teacher grants.

Thank you and hope to see you there!

5th Grade Promotion
Groovy Book Fair

We are looking for parents who can help volunteer at the 5th grade promotion on May 17 and 18th.

For some slots it helps if volunteers are not 5th grade parents, as this allows these parents to focus on the event.

Your help is greatly appreciated - see the volunteer signup.

You can help by signing up to v

Spring Book Fair

Kids can shop before and after school, at lunch recess, and at the Fine Arts Gala on Friday, April 29th from 5:30-7:30). Sunrise will receive at least 60% in book profits, but we still need volunteers to work some shifts to keep the book fair open.

If you can help out, please volunteer with the book fair volunteer sign-up.

You can also visit the book fair virtually via the online store:

Spring Fine Arts Gala

The Spring Fine Arts Gala is next week - April 29th.

Visit the Student Art Show and Book Fair, have some dinner with friends while enjoying chorus and band concerts, do some crafts, and more! It will be a wonderful reminder of why Sunrise is such a great school, and should be a really fun night.

General schedule for the 29th:
5:30 p.m. Art Show, Book Fair, and Garden open; food available for purchase
5:30 p.m. Band performance
5:45 p.m. Approx start time for the Chorus performance
7:00 p.m. Garden Closes
7:30 p.m. Art Show, Book Fair, and booths close

Food and drink (pizza, bottled water, and Kona ice) will be available for cash-only purchases.

The Garden will be open to visit and to plant a seed for fall. There will be several craft tables and the Tucson Museum of Art docents will have an activity and education for the kids too!

Every child will have at least one art project on display; however, none of the art will be for sale. Your child will bring home their art project(s) by the end of the year, so just enjoy the amazing display of Sunrise talent!

To make it a fun night for everyone, we need volunteers willing to set up, clean-up, and help with the craft tables.

Please contact Sarah (Walters) Reitmeyer via email if you can help, or...

Mathathon Totals

What a fantastic Mathathon fundraiser we had! We raised a record amount, and the kids had fun doing it! Final numbers and award winners are in, so without further ado, here they are:
  • Total raised: $24,650
  • Highest Participation: 73% - Ms. Lin's Kindergarten (won Eegee's certificates)
  • Most Raised (class): $1,830 - Ms. Prickett's Kindergarten (won Eegee's certificates and $100)
  • Highest Average Score (by grade): 24.47 - Kindergarten
  • Top student fundraisers - Troy, 1st grade; Evan, 2nd grade; and Ashley, K.

And because we were so close to hitting our $25K goal, Mrs Davidson approved the whole school getting a week of fun PE games and a crazy hair/dress-up day(TBD)!

Our overall participation was 44%, down from 57% last year, but we still raised more money, so if we can get participation back up, we could see another record year in 2017!

Big thanks to our volunteers and the parents and kids for your support!

Chinese Immersion & MYT

It's hard to believe summer is almost here! Our next event will be a booth at Meet Your Teacher, on August 10th. We need two parent volunteers to support our program at the table for an hour or two. Please email Anita if you would like to help!

We had wonderful volunteers for our projects this year. We could not have done it without you! Next year we hope to involve more families in our events and projects: Meet Your Teacher, China Sprout, coordinating photos, new Spiders & Cider Chinese game, Chinese spring festival and more!

We will stay connected through email over the summer. Thank you!

Anita McGuire,
Immersion Liaison
Groovy Book Fair

The date is set! Spiders & Cider will be held on Friday October 28th, 2016 and planning is in full swing.

Would your family like to ‘ Adopt a Spiders & Cider Game’ this summer and spruce it up? There are a few Spiders & Cider games that are in need of some TLC to help carry them through future years. This could make a great summer project for a crafty/handy family and we would be eternally grateful! Here are a few games that are in need of a tune up – The LollyPop Tree, Tee It Up, Fishing Game and Pumpkin Bowling.

Please email Alli Swanson if you would like to spruce up a game and she will coordinate all the logistics for you.

Also, please let Alli know if you are interested in being part of the following committees: Raffle, Food, Decorations, Games, and working on a few ‘to-dos’ this summer.

We look forward to celebrating this wonderful tradition and community event with you and your family. Your time and effort in helping our FFO prepare and execute this event is key to the success and helps us to provide lifelong memories for our children. We are grateful for your past and future support.

Thank you!

Upcoming opportunities:
All of the FFO positions are of course also volunteers and the FFO programs would not happen without all their combined efforts.

There are a few open positions for next year that desperately need to be filled in order to ensure a successful year for our school and students.
