Sunrise Drive FFO Digest
Feb 16, 2015 - Vol. 1 Issue #6

The second semester is in full swing at Sunrise! From the successful Science Day on campus, to the Spring Chinese Festival, to the kick-off of the Mathathon, to the upcoming Rodeo Lunch, the children are having a blast!

All of these events are made possible by your family's contribution to the Spirit of Sunrise and by the wonderful volunteers that give a little bit of their time to our kids.

With that being said, it's never too early to start thinking about the future! We want to tell you about all of the fun volunteer opportunities. On our website and linked from the newsletter is the full catalog of volunteer and FFO positions at Sunrise. There is a detailed description and an approximate amount of time and effort needed for each option. We are certain you can find something of interest that will fit into your schedule!

We want to send a big THANK YOU to all the current and past volunteers and active FFO members. If you haven't volunteered yet this school year, there are still events that need your help, so please take a look at the 2016 Sunrise Volunteer Catalog (pdf) and consider volunteering.

We are happy to answer any questions and explain how you can help!

9th Annual Mathathon
The Mathathon is a wonderful Sunrise tradition that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for field trips, artists-in-residence, the Community Garden and dozens of other campus programs! It'a a win-win event...our students have fun learning math while great Sunrise programs get the funding they need!

For those new to Mathathon, here's how it works: students get pledges from family and friends for math problems answered correctly on a test they will take on March 8th.

NEW THIS YEAR - pledges will be 100% online using It is super easy to use. Students will have the ability to email family and friends or contact them directly for pledges. Since payments are made online, no collecting cash will be required. Sponsors will not be charged until after the Mathathon is complete and the students’ scores have been recorded.

The most important part of Mathathon is to have our kids get the message that math is fun!!!

Please consider volunteering for this great event at Mathathon SignUpGenius. If you have any questions about the Mathathon, please feel free to contact Debbie Claggett.

Steppers Celebration

Thursday, March 3rd
11 am – 1 pm
Big Field (behind playgrounds)

Have you seen the cool shoe tokens your child has earned at Sunrise Steppers???

Each token represents a
mile of running or walking around the big field. Together, students and teachers have run over 4,500 miles this school year - a distance of one and a half trips a across the United some!

To reward their dedication, we'll be holding a special Steppers Celebration on Thursday, March 3rd. There will be fun and games on the big field, and every participant gets a cool prize!

We need lots of help to make this special day a success!

All parents are welcome to attend the entire celebration, but here is a list of times when each grade will be on the field:

11:00 - 11:20 Kindergartners
11:40 - 12:00 2nd Graders
12:00 - 12:20 1st Graders
12:20 - 12:40 3rd Graders
12:30 - 12:50 5th Graders
12:40 - 1:00 4th Graders

Following the Celebration, there will be a special Kiva from 1:00-1:30 to honor the top runners.

Lost and Found

With the weather being cold in the morning and warm at the lunchtime recess, many children are shedding their outerwear and leaving it on the playground. The clothing is rounded up each day and deposited in the Lost and Found area which is located behind the library next to the outdoor eating area. There are now about 200 items there including lunch boxes and water bottles, hats and gloves, and t-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets.

Please come and take a look at all of the "merchandise", as we have a charity that would appreciate having it all for children who have nothing.

The donation will take place before the end of the school, so please come and claim your children's things now!
