Sunrise Drive FFO Digest
Jan 24, 2017 - Vol. 2 Issue #5
Hello -

Welcome to 2017! If you are like me, a new year means a new calendar. And that means updating it with important dates. Here are just some of the good things to add to your calendar:
  • Friday, 1/27 - General FFO Meeting, 8:05am
  • Friday, 2/10 - Chinese Spring Festival, 5pm-7:30pm – Signup to volunteer!
  • Friday, 2/17 - FFO General Meeting, 8:05am
  • Wednesday, 2/22 - Rodeo Lunch – Signup to volunteer!
A new year also means we are looking for officers and committee chairs for the 2017-2018 school year. Start thinking about how you would like to serve! Any of our current officers and chairs can answer questions you may have, and you are welcome to email me or attend a meeting of the FFO Executive Board (Feb 10 or March 10 at 8am in the teacher work room). A diverse group of committed volunteers makes the FFO strong!

Thanks for all you do for Sunrise Drive!
Kate Spaulding (FFO President)

Note: We respect your privacy and hope you welcome this monthly email. If not, please accept our apologies and kindly use the unsubscribe link at the bottom or contact our communication volunteer, Tim Colson, with any questions!

SARSEF

The FFO organizes, operates, and communicates to all families and faculty the many Sunrise, CFSD, and community programs and events. We also generate funding to support the vibrant learning environment and our programs and events.

We record all Meeting Agendas & Minutes online for public review.

Next general meeting is Friday, Jan 27 at 8:05 AM.

Grants at Work!
The FFO grants program expands Sunrise’s ability to meet educational needs. Teachers, staff, family and students submit grant proposals to the Grants Chair for review and exec approval to bring to the General FFO meeting for discussion and a deciding vote.
For more information, contact Amanda Saffer, Grants Chair.

There are no grants for January. Check back in February!

China Sprout Book Fair
Thursday February 9 and Friday February 10

Location: Sunrise Drive Elementary Library

China Sprout provides a large selection of Chinese cultural and educational products (picture books, work books, games, textbooks). The China Sprout Book Fair is a great opportunity for Sunrise families to see material in person, purchase books for students, and also purchase books from the immersion staff wish lists.

The school also gets profits from the sale. Generous donations and profits from last years book fair resulted in over $1,000 worth of Chinese books for the classrooms!

The book fair will be open before and after school Thursday, before and after school Friday, and Friday evening during the entire Spring Festival. We will need lots of help for the book fair, please go to the Sign Up and volunteer to help.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jenny Dessent or Anita McGuire

Volunteering at Sunrise
We need volunteers for events, fundraisers, and other activities that support the classrooms and build community at Sunrise. Please consider clicking the volunteer button to learn more. If you have questions, please email volunteer@sunriseffo.org
  • Sunrise Steppers – Join in the fun every Friday scanning the students (and teachers/staff) to count the laps as they run/jog/walk around the field as Ms. Dover encourages them to go "one more lap". Signup to be a Stepper Scanner
  • Lego Robotics – This special 6-week session is where Legos and Robots and math and reading and computer programing collide! Kids work in pairs to complete missions and gain skills. It's exciting and fun and Ms. Ackerman always appreciates parent volunteers that lend a hand. Don't worry, no robotic knowledged or computer experience is necessary! (This is not Skynet. ;-) Please check in with your teacher to find out when your childs class will be in the Robotics Lab.
  • Garden Club Sign-Up to help supervise students during lunch recess on Wednesdays.
If you've helped out already, you know how rewarding the experience can be, and if you haven't volunteered at Sunrise, please consider it today!

Because? Science!
Science Fair and Inquiry Day coming soon!

Thank you to everyone who attended Sunrise Drive Science Night with Brain S.T.E.M. in spite of the rain! It was a fun kick-off to the upcoming Sunrise Drive Science Fair from March 6-8, and Science and Inquiry Day on March 9.

If your child is interested in doing a Science Fair Project please turn in the 2016-2017 Science Fair Info and Sign-up Form by February 10.

We are also looking for presenters to help make Science and Inquiry Day a success. If you, or someone you know, works in a STEM related field and would be interested in presenting to a group of students (a class, grade level, or more), or have any questions, please contact Ritu Pandey ( email).

If you are interested in helping with either the Science Fair or Science Inquiry Day, please contact Anne Gruber ( email).
