From the Principal’s desk…

It’s hard to believe that only six more weeks remain for CSP. It is a very busy time of year, not just at school, but in our homes too. Our goal in CSP is to finish strong, so please encourage your children to stay the course with their studies, even if they finish their home schooling subjects earlier than we finish here.

Remember - we only allow three Gr. 1-8 absences per semester; Kinder is allowed 6 half-day absences per semester. If for any reason your child already has three absences this semester (which started January 13), they will need to be present the last two consecutive days of this school year per our “End of the Year Absenteeism Policy” as outlined in our CSP Parent Handbook (excerpted below).

Registration forms are rolling in for the upcoming Writer’s Workshop scheduled for Fri. April 28, 12:30 – 3:45. This fun afternoon of creative writing is geared for Gr. 5-8 CSP and Gr. 7-8 CP students, who will attend two hour-long sessions. Bring a friend! The CP workshop leaders will conduct an engaging Q&A session after refreshments. Registration forms & permission slips were sent home last week, but are available in the CSP office – or – ask your teacher to send you the e-copies. The forms can also be found online under CSP/PARENT INFORMATION. Registration deadline is Mon. April 17.

The CSP Evening of the Arts will be held Thurs. May 4, 5 – 8:30 pm at the TCA-E campus. Families are welcome to enjoy two performances of the JH Musical – Rock around the Block. Our annual CSP Art Show will be held that evening also. A lovely display of classical art projects created by K-8 students will be showcased in the halls. Refreshments served. Plan to bring the whole family to this annual event. Questions? Contact Debbie Smith, CSP Art Teacher, smithd@asd20.org or Paula Higgins, CSP Music Teacher, phiggins@asd20.org.
In partnership,

Susan Nosal

LENDING LIBRARY MATERIALS
DUE MAY 1-4
Parents – please return all materials you checked out this year.
Return materials 3 ways:
1. Send books/CD/DVDS with your child to give to his teacher
2. You may drop materials off in the CSP office
3. Set up an appt. with Ruth Kozyra, 487-2027, CSP Curriculum and Program Specialist, rkozyra@asd20.org to return materials.
You will receive your full refund if the materials are returned in the condition you received them.
A damage or missing book fee will be charged, if necessary. Parents – please keep in mind that your child’s final Participation Report will be held until your Lending Library materials are returned. Thank you!

BOOK DAMAGE FEE
Within the next month, teachers will collect all CSP books that have been lent to students. Back in August, each student filled out a ‘ Textbook Sign-out’ form for each borrowed CSP book, citing any damage to the book before they took it home. Students are expected to return their IEW and literature books in the condition they received them – and transport their literature books in a plastic bag. Each student is given a baggie at the beginning of the year for this purpose. CSP purchases new books in order to lend them to students for at least 5 years. If we observe that your child’s book has sustained significant wear and tear upon return, parents will be assessed a damage fee for full or partial replacement cost of the book, payable to CSP. This fee must be paid before the final Participation Report can be issued. Thank you for helping your child be responsible for books borrowed from CSP.

• Please pay the $5.00 IEW Licensing Fee if your child borrowed a CSP Student Workbook this year. Pay online or give the CSP office cash or check (made out to TCA). You may also send in payment with your child. Payment will be applied to your student’s PayForIt account.
8th graders – your mandatory CSP fees must be paid before leaving CSP to go to another program (CP, another homeschool program or HS, etc.)

CSP POLICY

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Parents - if your child will be absent please call 487-2000 and leave details on our attendance line. Students who are chronically absent and exceed 3 absences (6 Kinder half days) in a semester, excused or unexcused, risk not successfully completing the semester.

IF A STUDENT EXCEEDS THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED ABSENCES, he/she must attend the final two class sessions of the school year or the student will be disenrolled by the Registrar. You will need to put your student back on the waitlist. Consistent attendance at CSP should be a top priority since we are a part-time program. See ATTENDANCE POLICY on the website: CSP/Parents/CSP Handbook/Attendance Policy.

DELAYED SCHOOL HOURS
In the event we have a weather 2-hour delay, please follow these times:

10:15-3:30 all classes, Grades 1-8
10:15-12:30 K AM classes
1:15-3:30 K PM classes

*Hot lunch will be served on 2-hour delays for Grades 1-6.

*Students may wear denim bottoms + a uniform top on delayed start days.
NOTE: If we have a 2-hr. delay on an in-service date (Apr. 20), students will not come to class. Only teachers report 2 hrs. late and stay for in-service.
