From the Principal’s desk…

Thank you, Mrs. Higgins and Gr. 1-6 students for a fabulous performance last Thursday at the Winter Concert. We had a record number of families turn out to join the festivities, despite wintry weather. It would have been very difficult to reschedule it this week. We're glad you enjoyed the dessert receptions - our holiday treat to YOU! A special thanks to soloists: Sydney Akridge (Gr. 3), Jaden Bryant, Brynlee Neises, Aiden Kinney (Gr. 4 students), violinists – Keira Griffin (Gr. 5) & Lily Matthews (Gr. 6). And a special thank you to Lily Matthews & Kiera Griffen for accompanying the upper elementary group on their lovely violins. We appreciate Ms. Brittany Fontana serving as asst. director. Thank you, CSP staff, for your efforts to make the evening flow smoothly. I'm grateful to work with this incredible team every day!

The Cottage School program thrives because of the partnership we have with dedicated, caring homeschool families. We’re grateful that you help in the classrooms, donate treats and gifts to the staff, assist with class events, plan holiday parties, etc. WE LOVE OUR PARENTS!

Please remember: Tuesday classes resume on January 3. Hot lunch will not be served Tues. & Wed. (Jan. 3 & 4). Bring a sack lunch. Carpool will run as usual. As we end this last week of CSP classes and look forward to a restful break, I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and many blessings in 2017!

PS. Students who are non-compliant with immunizations may not return to school starting Jan. 5. See info below.

In partnership,

Susan Nosal

CURRENT NEWS

CURRENT ISSUE OF PALMARIUM - click here

NEXT WEEK IS DRESS UP WEEK for all CSP students – no denim or athletic wear. Students may wear a nice outfit or their uniform.  Dec. 12-15.

MISSING SMALL PLAID BOOT AFTER CONCERT?
There was a very small snow boot on the kiosk ledge this morning. I’d estimate it was for a 3-4 year old. It is black with some black and red plaid. Since it hasn’t been picked up yet this morning, I’d guess it was left by someone coming to the Cottage School concert last night.

DID YOU KNOW?
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow penned a poem based on hope. Later it became a Christmas song – I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. The backstory is very interesting. Season’s greetings!

https://blogs.thegospelcoalition.org/justintaylor/2014/12/21/the-story-of-pain-and-hope-behind-i-heard-the-bells-on-christmas-day/

WHAT DID YOU DO IN CLASS TODAY?

In Gr. 4, Mrs. Daum guided students to compose their own Didactic Cinquain, using a graphic organizer. This form of cinquain doesn’t follow the syllabic format; it simply allows students to focus on grammar and colorful language. Here’s what the class composed together:
                                              HOPE
                                        Positive, wishful
                             Trusting, anticipating, believing
                               Never giving up on yourself
                                              Aspiration

IMMUNIZATIONS – Is your student compliant?
There are several children who are not complaint on their immunizations for school. These parents have already received notification from the nurse regarding the details. I need you to know that we are required to exclude non-compliant students from class beginning January 5, if they are still not compliant. The last thing I want to do is to exclude a child from going to their class. Please help CSP by following one of these options to be in compliance.
1. Bring in immunization records to the school office that show your child is up to date on the required immunizations.
2. Sign the parent waiver form either online or by printing out the form. Here is the link: https://www.colorado.gov/cdphe/vaccine-exemptions

CHECK LOST & FOUND
Please check the Lost & Found rack & bins outside both FT & CSP offices. Left over items will be donated to charity during winter break.

TEACHER’S FAVORITES
Parents frequently ask ‘What would my teacher or tutor like for Christmas, birthday, thank you gift, etc.?’ To make it easier to access your teacher’s ‘Favorites’, you can now find this posted on each grade level web page, including our Special’s teachers (located under the Specials TAB).

KEEP USING THOSE KING SOOPERS CARDS
Thank you to those of you who consistently use the King Sooper rewards shopping cards for groceries and fuel. We have earned over $2000 from this program for CSP projects.
We plan to:
* help fund turf to cover the fenced-in dirt area for the front playground
* purchase curriculum for the Lending Library - to save you time & money!
* purchase equipment and supplies for the CSP Music program
King Sooper cards are available in the office for $5.00. They're loaded with $5.00 - so they're FREE.

CSP POLICY

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Parents - if your child will be absent please call 487-2000 and leave details on our attendance line. Students who are chronically absent and exceed 3 absences (6 Kinder half days) in a semester, excused or unexcused, risk not successfully completing the semester. Consistent attendance at CSP should be a top priority since we are a part-time program. See ATTENDANCE POLICY on the website: CSP/Parents/CSP Handbook/Attendance Policy.

DELAYED SCHOOL HOURS
In the event we have a weather 2-hour delay, please follow these times:
10:15-3:30 all classes, Grades 1-8
10:15-12:30 K AM classes
1:15-3:30 K PM classes

*Hot lunch will be served on 2-hour delays for Grades 1-6.

Morning kindergarten children need to bring a big snack since they are being dismissed later than usual.
*Students may wear denim bottoms + a uniform top on delayed start days.
NOTE: If we have a 2-hr. delay on an in-service date (Jan. 10, Mar. 1, Apr. 20), students will not come to class. Only teachers report 2 hrs. late and stay for in-service.

TESTING/EVALUATION OPTIONS FOR HOMESCHOOLERS
Per Colorado law, homeschool students in the odd grades, beginning in Gr. 3, are required to take a standardized test or have a formal evaluation submitted to your local school district. CSP offers the ITBS-CogAT Survey Battery in grades 3, 5, and 7 for a $25 fee. The test dates are: Fri. March 10 for WED classes Gr. 3, 5 & 7; Fri. March 17 – TH classes Gr 3 & 5. Only students currently enrolled in CSP may test with us. A CSP Testing Information document including a permission slip will be sent home in January. Consider this info an EARLY heads-up so you can plan accordingly.
