From the Principal’s desk…

Hello CSP parents,

It was wonderful seeing so many of our CSP families & staff kick up their heels at the Fall Square Dance-Dessert Night last Friday evening. We're grateful to Ron and Deb Steinkirchner for leading a variety of dances for the crowd.

NOON DISMISS on Thurs. Nov. 9 for Thursday students. Carpool is at usual locations. Denim day for staff and students. Please be punctual for noon pick up as the CSP carpool will go very quickly and our staff needs to return to the building for in-service. We are grateful to 2 CSP moms for providing a dessert for our staff.

Our next CSP event is the Gr. 1-6 Winter Concert, Thurs. Nov. 30, 5:15 - 8:30 pm, TCA-East gym. Mrs. Higgins and the students are practicing a variety of festive tunes, including time-honored classical selections. Students may dress up - wear a holiday outfit OR uniform. (Apparel not allowed: orange shirts or t-shirts, athletic wear, denim.) Details are noted on the Music webpage on the CSP SPECIALS tab.

As part of our Core Values, The Classical Academy pays tribute to all the men and women who have bravely served our great nation as a member of the US Armed Forces. You’re invited to the annual TCA Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 10, from 9:30-10:45 am in the North Campus gym. This is a patriotic assembly to honor and recognize Veterans and current serving military of our TCA community. Keynote Speaker, CP Parent, Victor Marx will present “The Value of Veterans”. CSP CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS:

WED Gr. 1 – Shared by Mrs. Heffentrager:

Last week when I was instructing students in Spalding, I asked them to use words from a previous list in a sentence. A student raised her hand and happily said, “WORK - All this work is worth it!”

Her sentence took me by surprise. Entering Spelling words is a difficult part of the day for my young first graders as they have to focus on handwriting and posture as well as identifying letters, syllables, rules and other word markings. This young student’s comment gently reminded me that, yes, all of this work is worth the time and effort. It may not be easy, but it is producing much growth of character and mind.

Our class referred back to this sentence as we discussed Gratitude, our monthly character trait. What a joy to watch these students press in to the hard things and recognize that good fruit is the result.

M / T Gr. 6 – Shared by Mrs. Bauer:

This past month in my classroom, we talked about teamwork. One day I challenged students to play a cup tower building game. Each team member holds one of five strings which is attached to a rubber band. Using this tool (no hands on the cups allowed) and by effectively communicating, the team must successfully stack 5 cups into a pyramid formation. This teams expediently built and systematically disassembled the tower to return the cups to their original stack. Afterwards, teams shared their strategies with the class and noted them in their Character “flipbook” notebooks. Earlier in the month, 6th grade classes drew about themselves on a puzzle piece. This “Look How We Fit Together “activity demonstrated how several different members work together for the benefit of the whole. The fit-together puzzle pieces are displayed on the classroom bulletin board for the classes to learn about each other.

CSP GR. 4-6 STUDENTS INVITED TO PERFORM

WHERE: Pike’s Peak Center
WHAT: Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale “IN HARMONY FESTIVAL”

WHEN: Mon. April 23 – Wed. April 25

Deadline to contact Mrs. Higgins: TUES Nov. 14

Deadline to pay $20 fee: THURS Dec. 7

CSP has received a special invitation from The Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale.

CSP Gr. 4-6 students are invited to perform at the “In Harmony Festival” on Monday through Wednesday, April 23-25, 2018.

The cost is $20.00 per student.

Rehearsals at the Pikes Peak Center take place on Monday 4-23 and Tuesday 4-24 from 3:30 to 6:30. The Wednesday 4-25 rehearsal and performance is 3:30 to approx. 9:00.

Last year 20 CSP students performed beautifully for the large audience. Mrs. Higgins is hoping to double the number of CSP singers this year so we can perform two of our Winter Concert Songs as a small choir.

We’ll also sing a few designated songs with the massive In Harmony Festival choir (500 students on stage last year).

Please email Mrs. Higgins phiggins@asd20.org by Nov. 14 if your student is interested in being part of this incredible performance opportunity with the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale.

The $20.00 fee is due by Dec. 7.

You may pay:

  • Drop off a $20.00 CHECK (made out to CSCC)
  • Drop off $20.00 CASH to the CSP office
  • Send in $20.00 CHECK OR CASH with your child to give to his/her classroom teacher.
  • Label the payment envelope “Children’s Chorale” with your child’s name & grade & day @ CSP.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to sing at the Pikes Peak Center in a huge choir (several hundred students participate every year).
Mrs. Higgins will receive music copies based upon the number of students who sign up by Nov. 14, and pay their $20.00 by Dec. 7, (a week after our CSP Winter Concert on Nov. 30).
A couple of rehearsals for these CSP students will be held at TCA before the April In Harmony Festival rehearsals to prepare our students to sing with the large choir and perform as a small CSP choir.

We hope to sing: Yonder Come Day and Take My Lumps as a small choir.

SCHEDULE – FEE:

    • April 23, 24 - Rehearsal and Workshop (3:45 – 6:30 pm) @ Pikes Peak Center
        • April 25 - Rehearsal and Concert (3:45 – 6 pm, then a 7:00 pm concert) @ Pikes Peak Center
        • The $20.00 Festival Fee includes:
          - Music for the Festival (you keep it)
          - Performance on the Pikes Peak Center Stage
          - (1) Complimentary ticket per singer (for a family/friend member to attend)
          - Dinner on Wednesday night
          - Commemorative Poster and certificate
          - (1) DVD recording of the Concert

The Children’s Chorale hosts this entertaining program each year. This is the second year CSP has been invited to participate.
Based upon the number of CSP students who choose to participate, Mrs. Higgins may need a few parent chaperones.

We are excited to invite our students to be part of this special musical opportunity. We’d love to have your family join the fun!
Questions? Contact Paula Higgins, CSP Music teacher, phiggins@asd20.org.

Thank you for your support of the CSP Performing Arts!
