AN HOUR OF CODE IN DECEMBER
Tuesday, December 5 | 10 am - 1 pm | The Commons on Champa, 1245 Champa St, Denver
Students (3rd-7th grade): Prepare to have fun, be inspired and learn about a variety of exciting opportunities in computer science. Seats are limited, so
register now!
Computer science is changing every industry, and it will continue to play a large role in future careers for today’s students. Although it's the number one source of all new wages in the U.S., fewer than half of U.S. schools offer any computer science courses whatsoever. Computer Science Education Week and Hour of Code are changing that. In celebration of this year’s Computer Science Education Week, CTA is proud to partner with Code.org and MindSpark Learning for a fun, hands-on learning event for students around computer science and the role it will play in future careers.
The event will allow students to experience four 30-minute workshops: Hour of Code online activities, robotics, “unplugged” problem solving and critical thinking activities and a presentation by industry experts.

CSP HIGHLIGHTS
CSP 7th gr. students' wisdom shared during their Socratic Seminar on Around the World in 80 Days.
*Honor is love. If you love someone, you honor them.
*If you are kind to others, you will usually receive kindness in return
*Encourage others to be kind by treating them with respect.
*Honor means to have integrity, and to treat others with respect and gratitude.
*Perseverance always leads to success, but it might not always be your success or end up the way you anticipated.
*Perseverance is hard, but hard is good. Hard helps you grow.
*Try to do hard things in life because they give you confidence and challenge you to persevere.
*Perspective is everything when it comes to perseverance!
*Something will always be learned when you persevere. It just may not be what you thought you would learn!
*Perseverance means you stay committed to something. If you stick with it, something good will always come out of it.
*Hard is the definition of growing.

STEM PROGRAM FOR HOMESCHOOLERS
STARBASE is a Department of Defense (DoD) funded program for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) for 5th graders. There are over 50 sites nationwide. We are the only STARBASE in Colorado. We stood up in Dec. 2014.
There is no cost to attend and students and teachers/parents bring a cold lunch. We meet one day each week for five weeks. Students receive five hours of fun, engaging "hands-on minds-on" STEM lessons and activities. We provide all supplies. We are currently booked for this year but you can register for next school year.
Typical physics lesson: Learn about Newton's Second Law of Motion then launch a mini-trebuchet varying the counterweights. Students see the formula F=M times A in ACTION!
Chemistry: Molecular Modeling includes a basic intro into the periodic table of elements and then students build molecules with molecular modeling kits. Ex. They connect two Hydrogen atoms with one Oxygen atom to create the molecular structure of water.
