Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) - maxim in Poor Richard’s Almanack

From the Principal’s desk…

Hello CSP parents,

We encourage CSP parents who received a neon yellow Federal Impact Form in their child’s backpack last week to please sign and return it THIS WEEK. We aim for 100% return by Nov. 4. Indicate whether you are military or N/A. We receive funding based on the completion of these forms.

Come enjoy the CSP Dessert-Square Dance event this Friday evening, 6:30 – 9:00 in the East gym. Bring your favorite dessert to share. New square dance callers will lead a variety of group dances this year. Yee haw!

Monday classes dismiss at noon on Mon. Nov. 7 for staff in-service. Carpool at usual locations. Denim day for staff and students. Please arrive on time as our carpool will go very quickly and our staff needs to return to the building for our in-service.

Order forms for Silver Graphics are due Wed. Nov. 9 in order to receive gifts for the holidays. Online ordering is easy! Thank you for supporting our CSP Art program. Have a delightful week!

Sincerely,

Susan Nosal

PARENT SIGNATURE NEEDED!
During conferences, parents were asked to sign the annual NEON YELLOW Federal Impact Form. This provides extra funding for all TCA schools. If a CSP parent has an affiliation with the military, at any time, in any capacity, please sign & return this form, which will be sent home with your child this week.
RETURN FORM BY NOV. 4.
• If you are active military, complete the first section.
• If you are in Foreign Military service, complete the second section.
• If you are a civilian working on Federal Property, complete the third section.
• If none of these apply to you, just skip these three sections and sign and date the form at the bottom.
If you see an old address listed on your student’s form, that is the address District 20 currently has listed in Infinite Campus. If your address has changed, please complete this Address Change Form and either give it to the CSP office manager or the TCA Registrar’s office. We will forward it to D20 for you.
TCA cannot change your address in IC. Only a parent/guardian can do this.
If you have any questions, please contact Sherry Cory in the Registrar’s Office, scory@asd20.org.

CHARACTER
NOVEMBER Character Focus: Gratitude & Bravery. Teachers will note which character strengths were discussed each week so you may continue those conversations at home. CSP classes will also implement Peer Mentoring, pairing older and younger classes to engage in character discussions and activities together. Mentoring across grade levels is a part of the Board initiative for enriching TCA’s Character Education program.

SILVER GRAPHICS ART FUNDRAISER

TESTING/EVALUATION OPTIONS FOR HOMESCHOOLERS
Per Colorado law, homeschool students in the odd grades, beginning in Gr. 3, are required to take a standardized test or have a formal evaluation submitted to your local school district. CSP offers the ITBS-CogAT Survey Battery in grades 3, 5, and 7 for a $25 fee. The test dates are: Fri. March 10 for WED classes Gr. 3, 5 & 7; Fri. March 17 – TH classes Gr 3 & 5. Only students currently enrolled in CSP may test with us. A CSP Testing Information document including a permission slip will be sent home in January. Consider this info an EARLY heads-up so you can plan accordingly.

CSP GR. 3-6 STUDENTS INVITED TO PERFORM
IN THE COLORADO SPRINGS CHILDREN’S CHORALE
“IN HARMONY FESTIVAL”
CSP has received an exciting invitation from The Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale for an “In Harmony Festival” on April 10-12, 2017 that only costs $20.00 per student.

DROP OFF CHECK (made out to CSCC) or $20.00 CASH to the CSP office or your child’s classroom teacher. Label the envelope “Children’s Chorale” with your child’s name & grade/day @ CSP.

This is an opportunity for your student to sing at the Pikes Peak Center in a huge choir (several hundred students participate every year).
Mrs. Higgins will receive music copies based upon the number of students who sign up and pay their $20.00 by Dec. 8, 2016 (the CSP Winter Concert Date).
She will hold a couple of rehearsals for CSP students (after mid-January)- before the April Festival rehearsals - so our students are ready to learn the choreography at the ‘Rehearsal and Workshop’ dates in April.
April 10 and 11 - Rehearsal and Workshop (3:45 – 6:30 pm)
April 12 - Rehearsal and Concert (3:45 – 6 pm, then a 7:00 pm Concert)
The $20.00 Festival Fee includes:
*Music for the Festival (you keep it)
*Performance on the Pikes Peak Center Stage
*(1) Complimentary ticket per singer (for a family/friend member to attend)
*Dinner on Wednesday night
*Commemorative Poster and certificate
*(1) DVD recording of the Concert
The Children’s Chorale has an excellent program. It’s the first time CSP has been invited to this exciting event.
Based upon the number of CSP students who choose to participate, Mrs. Higgins may need a few parent chaperones.
If you are interested in this event for your student or have further questions, please contact:
Paula Higgins phiggins@asd20.org
We are so excited to share this opportunity. We’d love to have your family join the fun!

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA
The annual Veterans Day Assembly, will be held at TCA-North gym, Fri. Nov. 11, 9:30 – 10:45 am. Families and friends are invited to attend.

Once again, TCA K-12 has the opportunity to raise funds for Wreaths Across America. Our funds will be used to purchase wreaths for veteran’s graves.
This year we’ll donate wreaths to a local cemetery, Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home. There will be an opportunity for families to volunteer on Sat. December 17, should they wish to participate in the Wreath-Laying Ceremony.

CSP families donate online:
• TCA Families can donate a wreath online using the link to our TCA Fundraising Page on the Wreaths Across America Website. For every 2 wreaths donated, Wreaths Across America will donate an additional wreath. To donate a wreath online, you may click on this link:  https://wreaths.fastport.com/donateLocation.html?page=28108

Deadline for online orders is Monday, November 28, 2016.

• If there is someone specific you would like to honor with your purchase, there is an option to have a card sent to that family member at time of purchase. It is not possible to purchase Grave Specific Wreaths through the fundraising page.

Deadline for SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS is Tuesday, November 8.
We’ll announce at our annual TCA Veterans Day Assembly the number of wreaths donated this year.

CSP Gr. K-8 students may bring a donation to their classroom by Nov. 8. Send Cash or Checks (made to TCA) in an envelope labelled "Wreaths Across America" and your student’s name and classroom teacher.

NEW FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES AT TCA
As you know, TCA students, staff, and parents enjoy a warm, caring community that fosters the highest standards of academic, social, and emotional growth. The efforts of our parent & non-parent volunteers are a vital part of that community. In an effort to further ensure the safety of our students, TCA and Academy School District 20 require that all field trip chaperones and regularly-scheduled classroom helpers complete a background check and confidentiality agreement prior to chaperoning or working with our students. Please complete the Volunteer forms through this link and return them to the office.

If you were an approved volunteer during the 2015-16 school year, you do not need to fill out a new packet. Also, CSP will NOT need volunteer drivers for field trips this year.

**Approved volunteer chaperones are required to ride the bus and may not bring siblings.
