Greetings and Happy New Year to members, colleagues, and collaborators of The Combustion Institute. We are excited about several key initiatives that will drive the continued growth and innovation of The Combustion Institute. First, we are proud to announce there will be annual publications of our journal,
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute (PROCI). This year's PROCI volume will feature contributions from the four regional meetings that will be held in 2025: the 14th U.S. National Combustion Meeting (USNCM), 12th European Combustion Meeting (ECM), |

15th Asia-Pacific Conference on Combustion (ASPACC), and 13th Mediterranean Combustion Symposium (MCS). This effort has been, and continues to be spearheaded by Professor Assaad Masri, President-Elect of The Combustion Institute. You can read more about each meeting in the "CI Events" section of this newsletter.
The new CI website is up and running. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of all as we have addressed membership issues and adjusted to the new system. Additionally, we are in the process of establishing new committees to support our evolving needs and ensure we remain at the forefront of serving our members' research needs and initiatives.
We have also fortified our commitment to sustainability in a recently released sustainability statement which will inform our in-office procedures, as well as those of future meetings and symposia hosted by the Institute.
The year ahead presents the Institute with many exciting opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation. As we implement these initiatives, and continue to have productive conversations with the community, we are well positioned to have a transformative and impactful year in 2025.
We have plenty left to do and accomplish. The destruction caused by wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires in Los Angeles in the past two weeks, along with those in Chile a year prior, have affected the lives of numerous colleagues and their communities. These calamities also serve as a reminder of the significant role the combustion research community plays in tackling the tough problems of fire prevention and mitigation. In the newsletter, we showcase various ongoing initiatives by individuals and groups within our community. I take my hat off to them.
-Hai Wang
