Your Outreach Service
HFNZadmin
The HFNZ Outreach service exists to support and advocate for HFNZ members across Aotearoa. Every member has different needs, and we have a variety of services designed to support members at different life stages.

Good health is a key factor in managing a bleeding disorder. With this in mind, HFNZ can help support members to attend exercise programmes, like swimming or the gym.

We also offer supportive footwear grants, because we know that a decent pair of shoes is one of the easiest ways to protect against joint damage. There are criteria associated with these grants, so talk to your OR worker to find out more.

With prices going up across the board, sometimes you just need a wee boost to help you keep your head above water. The Outreach team can help by facilitating a needs grant. These small grants are available to HFNZ members undergoing hardship. Contact your OR worker to find out more.

HFNZ never wants money to be a barrier to member participation. If you want to attend an HFNZ event, but the finance just isn't there, reach out to your OR worker. Our first priority is always to get you there, and we're usually happy to organise a payment plan, or to look at other solutions.

To find out more about what the HFNZ Outreach service can do for you, contact your local OR worker. You can find contact details for each here: https://www.haemophilia.org.nz/our-work/outreach-services

Over the next few weeks we'll be filling you in on other parts of the outreach service, and introducing you more thoroughly to the OR workers.
Welcome aboard Tara
Tara Williams-Tuschling
We are please to welcome our new Southern Outreach worker, Tara Williams-Tuschling, to the team. Tara started work on 08 August, and has quickly got into the swing of things. She has organised a meet-up for local members, planned an Xmas do, and has begun planning her first Outreach trip down south.

Tara comes to us from the NZ Blood Service. She is a registered nurse with experience working with people who have mental health challenges, particularly those with long-term issues.

Tara says: "As I find my way around this new role, I want to make contact with everyone in the region. I’ll be in touch by email, text, or phone – please feel free to tell me your preference! – I’m also starting to plan outreach trips around Te Waipounamu so that we can get together in person. Please don’t wait for me to contact you if you need support – I am here to listen to you, and there is always time. If you’re not sure whether your question or problem is something I can help with, please ask anyway! If I don’t have an answer for you immediately, I will find one and get back to you."

We know that Tara will be a real asset to the Outreach service.

Southern members can connect with Tara by emailing tara@haemophilia.org.nz or by calling/messaging 021 656 804.
HFNZ Youth Hui 2022

It was fantastic to get youth from across the motu together in Wellington last weekend. A fabulous time was had by all, and some important decisions were made too.

Keep your eye out for a full report in the upcoming issue of Bloodline. In the meantime, check out some images of the activities.

WFH Global Policy and Access Summit
HFNZadmin

The second edition of the WFH Global Policy and Access Summit (GPAS) will take place on October 27 and 28, 2022. Join us to:

  1. Share strategies for sustaining and advancing bleeding disorders care in the fast-changing pandemic world.
  2. Promote dialogue and knowledge sharing between national member organizations (NMOs), healthcare providers, and national governments.

Presentations and discussions during the two-day virtual summit will centre around improving care and access to treatment. The conference will include speakers and participants from local and international partner organizations, national government representatives, healthcare professionals, WFH NMO leaders, and bleeding disorders advocates.

The WFH Global Policy and Access Summit (GPAS) is a unique opportunity to inform, discuss, and exchange knowledge on strategies to increase equitable access to care and treatment for the global bleeding disorders community. We look forward to connecting with you virtually this October!

Keep your member details up to date
In order to get the most out of your membership, it's important to keep your details up to date. The key details are email address and date of birth.

Posting invitations and information to members is an expensive business, and where possible we would prefer to make contact electronically. If you have an email address, but you're not sure that we have it, please let us know.

If we have no DOB for you we can't filter you in to age-based mailing lists, like Adult Weekend, Youth Camp, and Women's Weekend. Again, if you're not sure that we have your DOB, please let us know.
