Welcome to 2023!

Kia ora koutou e te whānau. Welcome to 2023.

After a couple of stop/start years due to Covid, HFNZ is looking forward to a settled year this year. We have several events for members lined up, a new home to refit and move in to, a couple of new staff members to recruit, and some work to do on how we present ourselves to the world.

To start the year you can look forward to a Youth sailing event in March, closely followed by the National Family Camp in April. Registrations are now open for both of these events. Check below. There are also regional events on the cards. Northern and Midland are holding a combined New Year event at Hobbiton in February, and the Southern crew are working on their own summer event.

You will all be aware that HFNZ now has a Wellington home. We took possession of our new premises in Lower Hutt on 31 December. Planning is now underway for a refit, which will ensure the space suits our needs now and into the future.

We start the year without a CEO or a Southern outreach worker. Recruitment is underway for both of these positions, with the first order of business being reviewing the position descriptions. We're looking forward to having a full complement of staff on deck again soon.

Work is also beginning on looking at our name and logo. This is important work, and we want to do it right. The first step is consultation. A focus group has been organised to canvas the opinions of key stakeholders. The work will also extend to HFNZ publications, like Pānui and Bloodline. Watch this space.

All of us here at HFNZ wish you all the best for the New Year.

Maureen's farewell
As those of you in the Midland region are probably aware, Waikato Clinical Nurse Specialist Maureen Campbell retired in January 2023. Maureen has been a huge part of the HFNZ whānau, and we're sorry to see her go. Clinical Nurse Specialist Rosie Davis has now taken the reins. You can contact Rosie on rosie.davis@waikatodhb.health.nz, or by calling 021 846 920.

To celebrate Maureen's connection to HFNZ we held a farewell do at the Hamilton Gardens on Saturday 21 January. Check out all the fun in the images below...

National Family Camp 2023

The National Family Camp brings our families together to access education in a supportive environment, while children are enjoying their own recreational programmes. Opportunities are included for families to mix and mingle so that they can establish friendships and develop support networks with other families who understand and live with bleeding disorders.

As always, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our people from around the country. There'll be fun, education, activities, socialising, and more!

Spaces are limited, so it is important that you register ASAP to avoid disappointment!

When: Tuesday 11 April to Friday 14 April 2023.

Who: The camp is open to families with children with bleeding disorders aged 0 to 13 years who are financial members of HFNZ. The camp is for the immediate family, including siblings.

Cost: There is no fee to attend this event, no matter where you live. However, if you feel like donating to support HFNZ programmes you can do that here: haemophilia.donatenow.co.nz

How to register: Click the button below, or register online at: https://nfc-2022.lilregie.com/, or email admin@haemophilia.org.nz.

Keep your member details up to date
In order to get the most out of your membership, it's important to keep your details up to date. The key details are email address and date of birth.

Posting invitations and information to members is an expensive business, and where possible we would prefer to make contact electronically. If you have an email address, but you're not sure that we have it, please let us know.

If we have no DOB for you we can't filter you in to age-based mailing lists, like Adult Weekend, Youth Camp, and Women's Weekend. Again, if you're not sure that we have your DOB, please let us know.
