Adult Weekend

The HFNZ team are pleased to invite members and their partners to the first post-lockdown national event. The 2020 HFNZ Adult Weekend.

The aim of this weekend is to increase knowledge about your bleeding disorder, and learn ways of improving your well-being, while sharing, relaxing, and enjoying yourself. Part of the programme will focus on physical well-being and the complications that come with living with a bleeding disorder.

Because you all have differing needs, the programme is being tailored to cover a range of issues, with concurrent sessions where appropriate. There will be workshops presented by experts from within the Foundation and beyond, as well as opportunities to talk and share your experiences.

We'll also be screening the NZ premiere of Bombardier Blood, the story of severe Haemophilia A sufferer Chris Bombardier scaling Everest!

This event is being held from 6 - 8 November in Christchurch at the Quality Hotel Elms. Click the button below to register via LilRegie.

WFH Virtual Summit
The just completed WFH Virtual Summit was a great success, and a fantastic way to keep up with what's new in the world of bleeding disorders. Over six days WFH presented dozens of speakers presenting on a wide range of topics. From humanitarian aid to gene therapy to ageing, there was something for everyone.

The good news is that most of that content is still available!

All you have to do is register for free, go to the Virtual Summit site, and choose the session you want to see on demand. (Hint: Check out our own Deon York and Lauren Phillips...)

Click here to register, and here to see what's on the programme.

Well done to all the WFH team who got this amazing event across the line at this difficult time.
 Member Details
In order to increase the reach of HFNZ communications, and improve member outcomes, Outreach have begun updating member details in the database. Over the coming weeks members will be contacted to add missing details. The most pressing details are email addresses and dates of birth.

Having a current email address for you and your whānau is important as we try to manage costs. Posting invitations and information to members is an expensive business, and where possible we would prefer to make contact electronically. If you have an email address, but you're not sure that we have it, please let your Outreach Worker know.

The other essential detail is date of birth. We need this so that we can be sure you're on the list for age-restricted events, like Adult Weekend and Womens' Weekend. If we have no DOB for you the database won't filter you in to age-based mailing lists. Again, if you're not sure that we have your DOB, please let your OR Worker know.

Please find the OR contact details below.
 Outreach
As the National Council has decided not to seek a new Midland OR Worker until 2021, members in the Midland region will continue to be supported by either Northern OR Worker Amber Maihi or Central OR Worker Lynne Campbell.

If you live in the Waikato DHB catchment your OR contact is Amber Maihi at amber@haemophilia.org.nz or on 027 512 1114.

If you live in the Bay of Plenty or Lakes DHB catchments, then your OR contact is Lynne Campbell at lynne@haemophilia.org.nz or on 027 273 3443.

Please refer to the image below to determine the DHB you fall under.

Outreach are not currently undertaking any travel. That means they will be conducting all member contacts via phone, text, email, or video. Please connect with your OR Worker to organise the best way for you to meet with them.

Southern: Ross Paterson - ross@haemophilia.org.nz, 021 656 804
Central: Lynne Campbell - lynne@haemophilia.org.nz, 027 273 3443
Northern: Amber maihi - amber@haemophilia.org.nz, 027 512 1114

 Central Camp
The Central regional committee have decided to proceed with their regional camp at El Rancho at Waikanane Beach. This event will be held from Friday 28 until Sunday 30 August.

The goal for the weekend is to have plenty of time to talk and meet with people from our region in a relaxed setting. This is a great opportunity to learn and share experiences with other people affected by bleeding disorders.

On Saturday morning we have an educational session planned followed by our (brief) AGM. Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning will be a mix of relaxed group activities. There will be plenty of free time and El Rancho has a wide range of activities available onsite.

Invites and registration details will go out to Central members soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

 Southern Walking Group

Welcome back to the second half of 2020.  In case you have been wondering we haven’t forgotten about the walks but have just been taking care in the Covid 19 environment. We have missed you though and Kyle and I are keen to get started again!

We'll put out a revised schedule of walks in a couple of weeks but in the meantime we will start with the same walk we undertook in February. So the message is, get out and get walk fit and we will see you in July.

Our first post-lockdown walk will be on Sunday 26th July: Victoria Park to the Sign of the Kiwi, via Harry Ell Walkway.

This walk starts from just above the Sign of the Takahe at Elizabeth Park Car park which is opposite Elizabeth Park and the dog exercise paddocks immediately below Victoria Park), sidles gently below Victoria Park and goes up to the Sign of the Kiwi through bush and pine trees up to the Sign of the Kiwi. 1.5 to 2 hrs return.

See you there!

Ross and Kyle
