Farewell to Sue
HFNZadmin
HFNZ CEO Sue Ellis finished her time at HFNZ at the AGM on Sunday 27 November. Sue was with us for four years. A significant portion of that was under the shadow of Covid, and we appreciate her leadership at that time.

At the recent AGM Sue spoke about her time at HFNZ. With apologies to Dickens, she spoke of the best of times, and the worst of times.

Of course, Covid was the biggest challenge; one that is not yet over. Through it all though, she was very proud of the resilience and wairua of the members and staff.

Though she says she is retiring, Sue and her partner still have consulting work to do, which will keep them busy for a while yet.

We appreciate the time and effort Sue put in to her work at the Foundation, and wish her well for the future.
Adult Wellness Weekend
HFNZadmin
It was lovely to see members from around the motu get together for HFNZ Adult Wellness Weekend last weekend. The theme this year was: The ties that bind us. With that in mind, it was very apparent at the event that HFNZ members are deeply connected to one another, and to the Foundation. This connection extends across generations, and into the future.

The members all enjoyed reconnecting after a long period of isolation and uncertainty. There were plenty of opportunities to socialise, including outings on the Devonport ferry, and to the Stardome Observatory. We also had educational sessions, including personal stories from the members panel, and an HTC perspective from the clinicians panel.

This was a very successful weekend, that was enjoyed by all. Check out the images below, and keep your eye out for an event report on the website and in the next issue of Bloodline.
Farewell to Tara
HFNZadmin

Sadly, our new Southern Outreach Worker, Tara, is moving on already. Tara has been offered a plum role working with the Health and Disability Commissioner, which was too good for her to turn down. We are very sad that Tara is leaving us. In just a short time she has shown all the qualities of a first-rate OR Worker. She will be missed.

Here's what she had to say: "After four short months in the role, I will be finishing up as Southern Outreach Worker on Monday 5 December. It has been such a pleasure to meet you all – particular highlights were our dinner in Christchurch and the recent Adult Wellness Weekend in Auckland. Thank you for welcoming me into your organisation. I wish you all the very, very best".

Until we appoint a new OR worker for Southern you can direct any outreach enquiries to info@haemophilia.org.nz, where you will be directed to the appropriate support.

Interim arrangements
HFNZadmin
With Sue retiring and Tara moving on, along with Lynne being indisposed, staff may seem a little thin on the ground. To help keep things running smoothly, HFNZ Chair Deon York has stepped in to cover the CEO role, while vice-chair Karl Archibald is supporting staff operations until appointments are made in the New Year.

The mangement and outreach roles will be advertised early in 2023.

The HFNZ office will close from 23 December until 16 January, although Loren will be back on deck on 09 January. Over the Xmas break Lynne will be on-call via the 0508 FACTOR number, and she will be supported by Darian as required. Remember, HFNZ is not a crisis service. So, if you have a medical issue please reach out to your haemophilia treament centre, or dial 111 if it's an emergency.
National Family Camp 2023
HFNZadmin

The HFNZ National Family Camp is scheduled for 11-14 April 2023 in Ngāruawāhia. This is a new site for us, and we're looking forward to a different view and new things to do.

Young families, where a child (0-10 years) is newly diagnosed with a bleeding disorder, often need support and information to manage the impact of the disorder on their family. The National Family Camp enables parents to access education in a supportive environment, while their children are enjoying their own recreational programmes. Opportunities are included for families to mix and mingle so that they can establish friendships and develop support networks with other families who understand and live with bleeding disorders.

Registration for this important event will begin in the New Year, so watch this space.

Keep your member details up to date
In order to get the most out of your membership, it's important to keep your details up to date. The key details are email address and date of birth.

Posting invitations and information to members is an expensive business, and where possible we would prefer to make contact electronically. If you have an email address, but you're not sure that we have it, please let us know.

If we have no DOB for you we can't filter you in to age-based mailing lists, like Adult Weekend, Youth Camp, and Women's Weekend. Again, if you're not sure that we have your DOB, please let us know.
