Meri Kirihimete from HFNZ
The latest from the Haemophilia Foundation of New Zealand - Xmas 2020
Meri Kirihimete from HFNZ
With the holiday season upon us, and a difficult year behind, now is a good time to sit back and take stock of the year.

2020 has been a long year in many ways, and a challenge for many of us. Covid took over much of what we all had planned for the year, limiting the opportunities for HFNZ members to get together. However, we were able to stay connected, and support one another when times got tough. The Inhibitors Workshop in March was timely, and it was lovely for members to be able to reconnect at the Adult Weekend in November. In between, it has been heartening to see members and staff coming together to ensure that everyone has what they need to carry on. We have a fantastic member-base, and we're committed to providing the best support and advocacy we can.

For many Kiwis, this time of year's a chance to have a well-earned break, and to connect with friends and family. However, it's important to remember that there are a number of other celebrations and religious festivals that go on across New Zealand and around the world. From the Buddhist Bohdi day, to the Jewish Hanukkah, the Islamic Milad un Nabi, the Hindu Pancha Ganapati, and the Christian Christmas, not to mention the good old secular summer holiday, there's plenty to love at this time of year.

At HFNZ we love this time of year as much as you do, and we'll be taking some time off to enjoy it too. That means Outreach and admin services will be closed from 2pm on 24 December, and will reopen at 9am on 5 January. During this time you'll still be able to get hold of the duty Outreach Worker if you need to. Just call 0508 FACTOR (322 867).

Whatever your reason for celebrating, all the staff here at HFNZ wish you all a happy, fun, and relaxing time this holiday season.

Amber at Te Papa for the 60th
Farewell to Amber
We are very sad to say that Northern Outreach Worker, Amber Maihi, is moving on to live in Australia.

Amber has been a wonderful addition to the team here at HFNZ. It has been lovely to see her grow into her role, supporting and advocating for HFNZ members in the Northern region. Amber has also become a key part of the Piritoto whānau. Having a staff member with Māori whakapapa has been of enormous benefit to all.

Here's what Amber had to say about her time at HFNZ:

Tena koutou katoa te whanau o HFNZ,

Anei nga mihi maioha kia koutou. As we near my final days as an Outreach Worker for the foundation I am reminded of all the amazing experiences, and of all the wonderful people I have had the privilege to meet along the way. It has been a journey, and I will always hold a special place for HFNZ in my heart.

“He hono tangata e kore e motu; ka pa he taura waka e motu.”

“Unlike a canoe rope, a human bond cannot be severed.”

Ma te wa,

Amber

Amber's last day will be 24 December. HFNZ's loss is Australia's gain...
