Meri Kirihimete from HFNZ
On behalf of the entire HFNZ team and board I would like to thank you for your support and your dedication to supporting one another during what has continued to be a time in our history like no other! We really appreciate each-and-every one of you. As the members of HFNZ, you bring the heart to everything we do, There are many achievements we can all be proud of this year and much work to do in 2023 to improve the lives of people affected by inherited (and sometimes acquired) bleeding disorders.

HNFZ will be closed from 24 December 2022 and re-open on 9 January 2023. An outreach worker will be on call during that time, but remember in an emergency to dial 111 as we are not a triage service.

Meri Kirihimete,

Deon.
Xmas office hours
Over the Xmas holiday period the HFNZ office will be closed from 23 December. Loren in Midland will be back on deck on 09 January, while Darian in Northern and Phil in the office will return on 16 January. While the others are on leave Lynne will be on call on the 0508 FACTOR number.

Remember that HFNZ is not a crisis service. If you have an emergency please call 111. For other health matters related to your bleeding disorder reach out to your haemophilia treatment centre. The clinical nurse specialist may be on leave, but there will be someone monitoring calls and messages. Just call the hospital and ask for the duty haematologist:

Auckland - While the HTC will be closed from 24.12 - 04.01, emails and texts are welcome but there may be a short delay in responding. Contact Karen or Vanessa at akhaem@adhb.govt.nz or on 09 307 4949 ext 25285.

Waikato - Maureen will be available on all non-stat days at Maureen.Campbell@waikatodhb.health.nz or on 021 846 920 or 07 839 8899 ext 23638. Otherwise, there will be a haematologist on-call for all ED visits.

Palmerston North - Daryl will be on leave from 01.01 until 16.01, but a colleague will have her phone. Otherwise, contact her at Daryl.Pollock@midcentraldhb.govt.nz or on her cell 027 240 8254.

Wellington - Contact BJ as normal at Brian.Ramsay@ccdhb.org.nz or via the haemophilia phone on 027 334 5081.

Maureen's farewell
As those of you in the Midland region are probably aware, Clinical Nurse Specialist Maureen Campbell is retiring in January 2023. Maureen has been a huge part of the HFNZ whānau, and we're sorry to see her go. Clinical Nurse Specialist Rosie Davis will be stepping into Maureens shoes from January.

To celebrate Maureen's connection to HFNZ we're holding a farewell do at the Hamilton Gardens at 11am on Saturday 21 January. If that sounds like something you'd like to attend, you can find out more by emailing loren@haemophilia.org.nz or texting 021 762 121.
Youth leadership event

Come sailing with us!

See what it’s like to work the grinders to trim a sail, ease a sheet or take the helm – enjoy the view and feel the wind in your hair. Come sailing with HFNZ in the beautiful Hauraki Gulf!

HFNZ have teamed up with the New Zealand Sailing Trust for the next youth event from 10 – 12  March 2023. More details will come out early 2023 but if you are aged 18-30 get in touch at info@haemophilia.org.nz and let us know, as spaces are strictly limited!

National Family Camp 2023

The HFNZ National Family Camp is scheduled for 11-14 April 2023 in Ngāruawāhia. This is a new camp-site for us, and we're looking forward to a different view and new things to do.

Young families, where a child  is newly diagnosed with a bleeding disorder, often need support and information to manage the impact of the disorder on their family. The National Family Camp enables parents to access education in a supportive environment, while their children are enjoying their own recreational programmes. Opportunities are included for families to mix and mingle so that they can establish friendships and develop support networks with other families who understand and live with bleeding disorders.

Please note that this year the age limit for children has been lifted to 13. That reflects the effects of Covid on our programmes, and that we haven't been able to run an NFC since 2019.

While there is a fee associated with attending camp: $50pp up to a maximum of $200, we don't want money to be a barrier to attendance. If cost is a concern for your whānau, please reach out to Leanne at admin@haemophilia.org.nz. We want you at camp, so we'll find a way to make it work!

Northern/Midland New Year do
Members in the Northern and Midland regions need to keep 12 February free, because we're off to Hobbiton!

Rather than trying to slot something in amongst all the busyness and drama of Xmas, the Northern and Midland committees decided that a New Year do was in order.

If you're a Northern or Midland member, and this sounds like something you and your whānau might be interested in, please rsvp to your Outreach Worker:

Darian Smith - Northern: Email darian@haemophilia.org.nz or msg 027 512 1114

Loren Silva - Midland: Email loren@haemophilia.org.nz or msg 021 762 121
Keep your member details up to date
In order to get the most out of your membership, it's important to keep your details up to date. The key details are email address and date of birth.

Posting invitations and information to members is an expensive business, and where possible we would prefer to make contact electronically. If you have an email address, but you're not sure that we have it, please let us know.

If we have no DOB for you we can't filter you in to age-based mailing lists, like Adult Weekend, Youth Camp, and Women's Weekend. Again, if you're not sure that we have your DOB, please let us know.
