東京フォーラムは、地球と人類社会が直面する課題について、異なる背景をもった多様な人々が自由に情報と意見を交換し、課題解決の方策を検討し提案する場です。東京大学と韓国のChey Institute for Advanced Studies（「Chey Institute」）が2019年に共催し、毎年一度国際会議として開催されます。東京フォーラムの包括的なテーマは、「未来を形作る」です。このテーマの下、今年は特に「人新世におけるグローバル・コモンズ（人類共有の地球環境）の管理責任」に焦点を当てます。 |

今年のテーマ
人新世における人類共有の地球環境、グローバル・コモンズの管理責任
地質学者は、我々は新しい地質時代「人新世（Anthropocene）」に入ったと言っています。地球温暖化や大規模な生態系の破壊は、既に異常気象やCOVID-19など新たな感染症といった現象を通じ、人命や財産を奪い、不平等を拡大させ、国際情勢を不安定にするなど、人類社会を脅かしつつあります。このまま環境負荷を増やして地球システム安定の限界を超えると、地球環境は大きくバランスを崩して不可逆的に別の状態に移行し、人類社会は持続可能でなくなるでしょう。
東京大学は、このような認識を持って今年度の東京フォーラムをオンラインで開催します。グローバル・コモンズに関連して様々な分野で世界的に活躍するゲストが、特別対話セッションと５つのパネルにおいて、この新しい考え方の可能性や活用方法、留意点などについて様々な角度から議論を交わします。 |

The forum is held yearly on the overarching theme “Shaping the Future”. |

This year's theme
Global Commons Stewardship in the Anthropocene
Scientists now believe that we have entered a new geological epoch, the “Anthropocene,” and that we are transgressing critical planetary boundaries, sending the earth into a trajectory where we can hardly prosper. Just as is the case with climate change, the COVID-19 crisis prompts us to question what it means to live in the Anthropocene. These unprecedented challenges to humanity require fundamental solutions to address their root causes. We need effective mechanisms to govern our global commons, restoring the health of our earth systems and laying the foundations of prosperity for people and planet.
With this understanding, Tokyo Forum 2020 Online aims at discussing how to unite diverse stakeholders to create governing mechanisms to steward the global commons. The Forum will also identify the unique role of East Asia as a major actor to transform those systems.
