Where to Fish in August?
August in our region is the time to watch water temps and fires. Because of our early warm spring and little snow pack, both fire and water temps are putting a damper on chasing trout. Here are some other options to consider:
Smallmouth Bass
This aggressive warmwater fish is a ton of fun on a fly. While 70 degree water is tough on trout, Smallies are very active in these temps. Target rocky ledges in the Willamette between Portland and Salem. Water Time Outfitters and NW Fly Fishing Outfitters both offer guided bass trips in our waters.
Flats Fishing for Golden Bones on the Columbia!
Yes, our invasive carp friends are elusive, giant and will test your casting and fish fighting skills! Check with the local fly shops on tips and trips for carp fishing.
