Summer Events and Outings
August 2023
Outings!
Our next outing will be at Fall River Septemberr 19-23.  The Chapter has secured a number of sites so if you don't have one, make a new friend and share a site with a fellow chapter member.

What's Fishing in August

While many of our fellow anglers head out to the lower Columbia Salmon Fishery this time of year, there are other options.

Sea-Run Cutthroat on the coast are in upper estuary and river systems.  Check the regs and go chase them!  Great fish and aggressive feeders on moving flies.  The Miami, Nehalem and Nestucca all have sea-runs available.

Did you know that the Spruce Fly is an Oregon pattern that was invented for Sea-Run Cutthroat?  Also works great on Mt. Hood lakes for trout.

Clackamas River Clean Up!

The annual river clean up happens on September 10 this year.  The clean up is sponsored by We Love Clean Rivers and Clackamas River Basin Council.

You can register as a volunteer and select from a number of jobs.

Working on a New and Improved Website

Jeff Horton has been in charge of our website for many years.  We can't thank him enough for all the time he has put into maintaining our site.

Jeff is working with a contractor to upgrade our site and make it easier to keep content up to date.  Looking forward to a rollout later this fall.
Cub Creek Restoration Update

Phase II of Cub Creek Restoration is underway this summer.  The Chapter has hired Aquatic Contracting to perform this year's work.

The project is re-connecting the historic flood plain at the confluence of Cub Creek, Hunter Creek, and the Clackamas River.  Project goals are to increase spawning and rearing capacity for listed Spring Chinook, Winter Steelhead and Coho.

This project is in partnership with the US Forest Service and ODFW.  Grants for this project come from OWEB and the USFS Drinking Water Provider Fund.

If the project goes as planned this year, we will need volunteers to help replant the project zone this fall.

If you are interested in volunteering for planting at the Cub Creek Project this fall, Contact Terry Turner for More informaiton
