Josh Linn,
Royal Treatment Fly Shop

Josh is one of the knowledgable professionals at Royal Treatment Fly Shop in West Linn.

Josh Linn

Josh currently works out of Royal Treatment Fly Shop in West Linn.

Josh has been fishing using the European methods of nymphing for the past ten years. His presentation is focused on demystifying this modern nymphing approach; including tackle, techniques and tips to being successful.

Josh is a native Oregonian. His father introduced him to fly fishing at a young age. Over the years he has been mentored by a great many anglers and that influence has turned him into a respected angler, guide, and instructor. He has taught hundreds of people to cast and guided many anglers into to their first steelhead.

Josh has spent the better part of the past 20 years chasing steelhead throughout the Pacific Northwest and remote places in the world. During that time he has guided and fished many rivers including the Infamous River X in Alaska, the Deschutes and the Sandy rivers in Oregon as well as more distant locations such as Russia and Los Roques Venezuela

Over the past decade Josh has worked with major manufacturers such as Rio and G Loomis to develop fly fishing tackle. Recently, Josh held a position at G Loomis as the their National Fly Fishing Sales Manager. Currently, he has a managing role at Royal Treatment Fly Fishing. If you are ever looking for Josh you’ll find him in one of two places, the fly shop or on the river chasing steelhead.

Projects and Volunteer Opportunities

Sign up for Steelhead Redd Surveys on the Molalla

CRTU has been asked to help gather spawning steelhead data again this year.  If you haven't done steelhead redd surveys before, they can be a lot of fun.

We have 2 reaches on the Molalla to survey this year.  The reach on the Table Rock Fork is the same as last year, and we are adding Lukens Creek on the North Fork this year as well.  Survey data is critical information that ODFW uses to manage steelhead in the upper Willamatte.

Both reaches are walking surveys with a lot of in-stream wading.  The survey can be moderately strenuous but should be the same as a half-day of wadefishing for steelhead.

Survey dates will be late March through early May and the chapter will target one survey per week during that time.

Contact Dave Tenney if you are interested in participating.

Outreach and education at Outdoor Shows

It's Fly Fishing and Sportsman's Show season in Oregon which gives TU an opportunity to spread the word about our mission for Protect, Reconnect and Sustaining cold water fisheries.

W Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Expo, March 8-9.  Linn County Exposition Center, Albany

Volunteer to help introduce kids to fly tying and learn about TU.   Contact Lori Day to volunteer at the Expo.

Special Raffle Announcement
CRTU will be raffling a Fish Cat 9 single person pontoon boat.  The boat is used but in excellent condition and is complete with a rod holder, oars, a pump and a set of Force Fins.

This boat is most like the current Outcast Pac 900 and sports 9' Tubes with standard Halkey-Roberts raft valves.  The boat will handle all of our lake fishing and moving water to Class II comfortably, depending on your rowing skills.

Tickets will sell for $5 each or 5 for $20.  The drawing will be held at our May meeting.
TU Western Region Meeting March 14-17
The TU Western Region meeting will be in Olympa next month.

There is no better place to see TU Staff and Volunteers work together to forward the mission in our home region.  If you want to learn more about how TU works and where you can help contribute to conservation and habitat restoration this is the place!
