The N. Arm Campground is Open
The campground is open, and sites are free of snow from last report.
From last reports, the route past Little Crater may not be open due to snow and downed trees. Here are the official directions from the Forest Service Website.
Directions (basically follow signs for the lake, the dam, then the campground):
—From Sandy travel east on Hwy 26 for about 40 miles to Skyline Rd.
—Turn right on Skyline Rd, travel south 9 miles.
—Turn right on FR 57, west 2+ miles, go over Timothy Lake Dam.
—Follow 58 north, past FR 5830, 5850 and 5860, to FR 5890.
—Follow 5890 south to FR 5890-012. Follow 5890-012 south to the campground.
We have sites 12-18 reserved so if you plan on arriving Monday, please take an open one from that stretch. If they are full, find a buddy to share one of those sites with. Plan to hang out at our group campfire in the evenings and share your fishing stories.
Most of us fish from float tubes, kayaks, or boats up there. The north arm juts off from the larger water body and feels like a smaller lake. It has plentiful trout. Ask some others in our group where to find the fish and we’re pretty sure you will.
Here are some helpful fly suggestions:
Leeches and Wooly Buggers, in black/red, brown, olive.
Carey Specials.
Ants! Dont forget the ants!
Callebaetis nymphs and emergers.
Chironomids, if you have the patience to fish them under an indicator.
Renegades.
Leeches and Carey Specials seem to work better with a red hot spot, either on the head or in the tail.
