Greetings from True Hope!
Greetings!

Do you remember 1979, November 1979 in particular?

It saddens our hearts to see the images on television that are so very similar to those of 1979 when segments of the Iranian population protested the United States' support of the Shah of Iran which resulted in the overthrow of that nation's government, the storming and occupation of the American Embassy and over 400 Americans becoming hostages of militant students!

But what a huge difference today - - this is not taking place in just one Islamist nation but in over 20!  The United States is being protested in over 20 Islamist nations and instead of hostages, American Diplomats are being physically defiled and then murdered!
  • The Lebanese news organization Tayyar.orgis reporting that the murdered American ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, was raped prior to his killing September 11, 2012.   The Lebanese news report cited the  Agence France-Presse (AFP) broke the story when given the information by an unnamed senior member of the Libyan Interior Ministry.
We pray for those who have lost their loved ones in this fashion and we pray for those who are in danger of similar fates.

It is at times like this that we must remember also that Jesus instructed us to ...
  •  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.           Matthew 5:44-45
So, Lord, help us to pray for those who are our enemies, who are so in bondage to the power of darkness and such deep hate and may they become born again saints of God!

MANY BLESSINGS!

FEAR NOT! Or Trust Not!

I have come to one of those times of being brought face to face with the fact that many Christians are spiritual cowards!

They talk about believing God and claim to trust in God but then when faced with the cost of standing for righteousness and against satanic unrighteousness, they themselves will not stand but will tell everyone what needs to be done and what it will take to win the war!

I don't mean to be harsh with folks such as these, but I cannot help but to challenge their faith in Jesus and trust in God, because when it comes down to it, we either believe what God says and trust Him with our lives - - or we do not!

Now before someone decides that I am being hatefully judgmental here, let me remind you of a couple of things that Jesus Himself stated to us . . .
  •  34.  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
     35.  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
     36.  And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
     37.  He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
     38.  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
     39.  He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.      Matt. 10:34-39
  •  57.  And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
     58.  And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
     59.  And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
     60.  Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
     61.  And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
     62.  And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.  Luke 9:57-62
And let me also pause here to state that I do know what it is to face losing my job, even my life, for being a Christian and I know very well what it is to be hit with fear!  Fear that I could justify yielding to if that would have been my choice!

Being afraid does not make one a coward - - letting that fear stop you from doing what is right or from standing for His righteousness is being a coward!

When the threat is to let satan rule your life because to stand against him means the loss of everything - job, house, reputation, respect, position, perhaps even life itself; and you are afraid to stand for what God says is righteous, the question must then be asked:  Do you believe what God says or is the Bible just a bunch of words written on paper?

What part of your life is so valuable that protecting it by yielding to satan's threats is worth hearing Jesus say:  "You are not worthy of Me!"????

This leads to the question about something that could very well happen in our time:  If given a choice to deny your faith or lose your job, what will you choose?  Hmmm, if you have already kept your faith "hidden" to protect some important aspect of your life, and you can rationalize that, what makes you think you will suddenly become courageous and stand on righteousness?

I met a man recently who was told that he could not keep his Bible setting out on his desk top.  There were those Christians who advised him to put it in the desk drawer and take it out at lunch time (which was the only time he read it on the job anyway);  however, he refused to hide the Word of God from plain view and it cost him his job - - that paid just under $100,000 per year!

What made the difference?  The man believed two things:  First he actually believed - accepted as HIS truth - what God says; Second he believed that nothing was as valuable to him as his fellowship with a clear conscience with God!

Psalms 56:3 frames our choice the best:  "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee!"

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the choice we have is simple and sharp - - when faced with costly choices because of being saints of God, we either to CHOOSE TO TRUST or we CHOOSE TO FEAR!

If we choose fear we are making the choice to NOT TRUST GOD!

If however we choose to TRUST IN GOD then we choose to NOT LET FEAR RULE OVER US!

Many a hero on the battlefield earned their medals trembling all the way - - but they did not let fear stop them from doing what needed to be done, even if it cost them their lives - - which it did for a very great many of them!

We must all make a choice, every time satan rears his ugly head with another threat:  Choose to fear not (not let fear stop you) or choose to trust not (not rely on God to work through and for you)!

I pray that the choices are always, choosing to trust in God!

Many blessings!
Dr. Timothy

PROPHET'S CORNER

US Treatment of Israel Burdened With Prophecy

By Bill Wilson

The occupant of the Oval Office declined to meet with the Prime Minister of Israel regarding Iran. Within a few hours the US Embassies in Egypt and Libya are attacked, leaving the US Ambassador to Libya and three other US officials there dead. The attacks rage on from the very people that the US president spent millions of taxpayer funds to help establish "democracy" in their countries less than a year ago. Most would explain this as a coincidence, blaming a US filmmaker's "hurting" of Muslim's feelings with his portrayal of Muhammad--as did the Embassy in Cairo, and similar statements from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the White House. Prophetically, however, the events may be related.

The Bible states in several places that coming against Israel will result in bad things happening. This is a prophetic reality. YHVH says to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3, "I will make of you a great nation...I will bless those who bless you, but I will curse anyone who curses you." In Zechariah 12:3 YHVH says, "I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone and all those who burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces." Again in 12:9, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." Near Jerusalem is where the Messiah left the earth, and Jerusalem is where He will return. And Revelation 19:21 says those that were against him "were slain with the sword of him..."

Throughout the Bible, in context, there is an undeniable relationship between Jerusalem, the Hebrew people, and YHVH, the one true God. When YHVH judged the Israelites, He often used nations to do so. But those nations--in most every case Arabs and Ishmaelites--were also judged thereafter due to their harsh treatment of YHVH's people. Serious students of the Bible who practice exegesis interpretation understand this relationship. Bill Koenig in his book, "Eye to Eye: Facing the Consequences of Dividing Israel," documents the natural, economic and political disasters that occur in America when its leadership comes against Israel. These events, as Koenig reports, are more than coincidence. They are prophetic.

The rift between the occupant of the Oval Office and Israel goes deep. The US president was raised a Muslim and his actions from the very beginning of his administration have been to support the advancement of Islam. Prophecy indicates that Islamic nations will unite and come against Israel in the Last Day. Throughout the Bible there are examples where YHVH judges the nations that cause harm to Israel. One such example is found in Jeremiah 51:49-50, "As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth. Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember YHVH afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind." Yes, let Jerusalem come into the minds of America and her leaders for these days are burdened with layers of prophetic events.

How to
Make Sense of the Stormy Middle East
From the January 2012 Trumpet Print Edition »

The whole region has violently been turned upside down, and the tempest isn’t over yet.
But to get a clear picture of the future you have to scan the past.

By David Vejil

The seasons have changed in Tunis, Cairo and Tripoli. The turbulent gusts of the “Arab Spring” have blown through northern Africa and continue to roar through the halls of power in Syria, Jordan, Yemen and far beyond.

For just a moment, the revolution inspired a warm glow of anticipation as the Western world looked for the rays of liberal democracy to shine through the clouds onto a region dominated by strongmen.

But we see no blossoming Western-style democracies—only the harsh winter of radicalism. The overthrow of the military dictatorships in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya is leading not to the birth of new democracies, but rather to a rebirth of Islamic states. As these nations embrace the tenets of radical Islam, one regional power stands to gain the most: Iran.

Governments in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are struggling to prevent contagion on their own soil. On top of these great political upheavals, Iran is shaking the whole region militarily by making steady progress toward acquiring nuclear weapons. Whispers of Israeli airstrikes are loudly broadcast. Even the United Nations reported in November that some of Iran’s nuclear experiments could only be for the purpose of weapons development.

Governments, policymakers, intelligence analysts and pundits are all trying to gauge where these troubling events are heading. Will winter set in, putting the Middle East into the cold clutches of radical Islam and Iranian dominance? Will it reject cooperation with the Christian Western democracies?

With so many nations involved, so many interests to be protected, so much history, and so many cultures and brands of religion converging, the Middle East is the most complicated region in the world.

Yet there is a source that can accurately answer all these questions! That source is biblical prophecy.

Two prophecies in particular make sense of the volatile international relations occurring in this region: Daniel 11 and Psalm 83.

These prophecies show what is in store for those nations involved in the “Arab Spring,” those whose governments have successfully resisted overthrows, and those facing rebellion right now.

Taken together, these two prophecies show us that the region will be conquered and controlled by one major power. Ultimately, it will not be Iran or an Islamic power!

To understand these prophecies, you must know which nations they are talking about.

The Whirlwind Attack

In the prophecy of Daniel 11:40-43, we learn that there is a “king of the south” ruling parts of the Middle East. But Daniel also says a different power will conquer the region: “And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind … and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. … [A]nd the land of Egypt shall not escape. But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.”

There are two primary powers here: the king of the north and the king of the south. The king of the south can only be Iran. (For an explanation, request our free booklet The King of the South.) It is not this “king,” though, that is prophesied to conquer North Africa and the Middle East. It is the king of the north!

The king of the north is a German-led European combine. To prove why the ancient “king of the north” is modern Europe, request our free booklet Germany and the Holy Roman Empire.

Daniel 11 lists the enemies of the king of the north, Iran’s key allies: Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia, which are still called by their ancient names today. Egypt and Libya are already falling to the control of radical Islamic elements supported by Iran!

This prophecy is why the Trumpet accurately predicted—as far back as July 1993—that these nations would be overtaken by radical Islam! Current events are unfolding exactly according to this prophecy.

However, just as important as who is allied with the king of the south is who isn’t.

Daniel writes that when the king of the north hits the king of the south and its allies with a blitzkrieg, three peoples will escape: “Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon” (verse 41). These three peoples will not be allied with Iran.

This means that ultimately Iran will not succeed—not only in confronting Christian Europe, but also in its efforts control the entire Middle East.

But what will happen to these other nations, such as Edom and Moab? This is explained in a different prophecy of events shortly after the king of the north conquers the king of the south.

An Anti-Israel Alliance

“They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.” This prophecy is found in Psalm 83:4. It describes a group of nations forming a confederacy to destroy the modern nations of Israel.

“For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them” (verses 5-8).

Assur is biblical Assyria, the prophetic name for modern-day Germany! (See the October/November 2010 issue for proof of Assyria’s modern identity.)

The Middle Eastern nations listed in this passage will form an alliance with Germany. Their purpose will be to “cut off” the modern descendants of Israel—primarily America, Britain and Judah, the modern Jewish State of Israel.

So, which are these nations that will ally not with Iran, but with Germany?

Edom and Amalek

Edom, also called Esau in the Bible, is listed first in Psalm 83. As we covered in our November/December 2011 issue (“East, West or Neither?”), this is modern-day Turkey.

Also included is a son of Esau, Amalek. Amalek and his children became a prominent people at the time of the Exodus. Moses records in Numbers 24:20 that Amalek “was the first of the nations.” That phrase refers not to chronology, but power: The Amalekites were the first people to attack the Israelites after they escaped from Egypt. They were even powerful enough to enslave Egyptians, according to an account in 1 Samuel 30:11-13. At the height of their power, the Amalekites colonized various areas of the Mediterranean, including the Aegean and western Turkey. In biblical prophecy, Amalek also refers to modern Turkey.

Turkey, like Iran, is a formidable regional power, but it has strong ties to Europe. It is not difficult to foresee how Turkey can and will resist falling into radical Iran’s orbit. In fact, the Psalm 83 prophecy shows that, despite present appearances to the contrary, Turkey will at some point renew its efforts to ally with Europe! Watch for it.

What about the other nations listed in this prophecy?

Moab and Ammon

Remember that the prophecy of Daniel 11 says the king of the north, after conquering the king of the south, will then “enter also into the glorious land”—the nation of Israel, specifically Jerusalem. Then, it says, “Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon” will escape. All three of these names also appear in Psalm 83.

Keeping the Daniel 11 invasion in mind, we can thus conclude that the nations listed in Psalm 83 are geographically near Israel.

Moab and Ammon were the sons of Lot by his daughters. During the time of King David and Solomon, Moab and Ammon created kingdoms in the territory of modern-day Jordan. Even today the name of the capital of Jordan, Amman, can be traced back to Ammon.

The descendants of Moab and Ammon evidently remained in the same area as their ancient kingdoms. They avoided captivity and the population dispersion policies of the Assyrians by paying tribute (Jeremiah 48:11). Considering that Moab and Ammon are in the vicinity of Israel, it becomes clear that Moab and Ammon constitute the modern nation of Jordan.

Gebal and Tyre

The same logic can be applied to the other names on the Psalm 83 list. Gebal is a city in Lebanon, also called Byblos. It is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

This was the most prominent city of the Phoenicians until being replaced by Tyre, also located in modern-day Lebanon and once a powerful trade center of the Mediterranean.

The Phoenicians were an ancient race of people, well known as traders, merchants and colonizers, who established cities all over the Mediterranean. While some of these cities grew very powerful, the Phoenicians never developed into a single empire or nation.

The prophecy focuses only on those major Phoenician cities that are now located in Lebanon. This means that the two cities reference a geographic location, not the people who founded them. It is clear, then, that Gebal and Tyre refer to Lebanon.

Hagarenes

The Hagarenes are also located in the same area. These are the descendants of Hagar, the mother of Ishmael, known as Hagarites in the other scriptures. Moses recorded in Genesis 25:18 that Ishmael’s sons dwelt in the land ranging from Egypt to Assyria.

By the seventh century b.c., during the reign of the Assyrian King Sennacherib, the Hagarenes were recorded as living among Aramean tribes off the middle section of the Euphrates. They are among the Aramean tribes invaded and ravaged by Sennacherib, according to George Raw-linson’s The Seven Great Monarchies of the Ancient Eastern World. The Arameans settled in what is today known as Syria. Therefore, the Hagarenes, who dwelt among the Arameans, are those who inhabit modern-day Syria.

Ishmaelites

The rest of Hagar’s descendants are known more prominently as the Ishmaelites. The identity of the descendants of Ishmael was once widely known, but today this history is being forgotten. Under the article “Arab” in the 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, printed in 1911, we read that Arab “people, according to their own traditions, are derived from two stocks: the pure Arabs, descended from Kahtan or Joktan … and the Mustarab or naturalized Arabs, from Ishmael.”

The descendants of Joktan “are represented at the present day by the inhabitants of Yemen, Hadramut and Oman, in general a settled agricultural population” on the southern Arabian Peninsula, while those Arabs from Ishmael are located in Saudi Arabia in “Hejaz, Nejd, El Hasa, the Syrian desert and Mesopotamia, consisting of the Bedouin or pastoral tribes.”

Though there is much regional variation in the Arabian Peninsula, the distinction between the desert nomads and the town dwellers and agriculturalists remains.

Thus, history, and even the Arabs’ own evidence, reveals that the modern Ishmaelites now dwell in Saudi Arabia.

Philistines

Last are the Philistines. Anciently the Philistines occupied the southern coast of Canaan, dominating five major cities, including Gaza, Askelon and Ashdod. It is from the Philistines that the term Palestine is derived. Geographically this would essentially describe the Palestinian territory known as the Gaza Strip.

When looking at this list of nations, excluding Turkey and Germany, all the nations listed are populated by people now called Arabs. If they are all the same people, why wouldn’t Bible prophecy label them as one people?

The Arabs in Prophecy

Beginning early in the seventh century, the Arabs conquered the entire Middle East and more. Just as the Bible prophesied, Ishmael became a great nation. It was the religion of Islam that inflamed the Arabs with the drive to conquer. As the Encyclopedia Britannica says, Islam “was the religious force that united the desert subsistence nomads—the Bedouins—with the town dwellers of the oases” (online edition).

As the Arabs conquered, they spread Islam around the world. The Arab language was also adopted throughout much of the Middle East and North Africa as Islam dominated the religions of those areas.

Today, the name Arab describes many different people who speak the same language.

No doubt there was a considerable mixing of the Arab people into the local populations as they conquered. Many of the nations outlined in this prophecy have been mixed over thousands of years and multiple invasions. The biblical record shows much intermarrying among these people from the beginning, and many of these Arab people are distantly related.

Genesis 28:9, for example, records a marriage between Ishmael’s daughter and Esau. The Ishmaelites were also shown to intermarry with another Arabian people, the Midianites—so much so that their names are used interchangeably in Genesis 37. The numerous children of the Ishmaelites most likely would have sought wives from the neighboring descendants of Joktan as well.

The Hagarenes are also distantly related to the Ishmaelites through the matriarch Hagar.

The Bible even comments on the Philistines being a mixed race in Zechariah 9, most likely a result of mixing in the neighboring peoples listed in Psalm 83.

Even with populations mixing and moving, though, biblical prophecy still labels modern nations that factor in end-time events by their predecessors. It is a mistake to label them all the same people. While they may share the same language and religion and have had a history of intermarriage, God still calls them by their respective patriarch’s or matriarch’s name.

And while the mixing of so many people in this area may make it difficult to be exact, there is enough information to give us a good picture of which nations will join in this Psalm 83 alliance.

The Future of the ‘Arab Spring’

Given our understanding of these prophecies, then, we return to our original question: Will what is left of the “Arab Spring” produce any Western-style democracies? Not a chance! There will emerge two distinct groups—one radical, Iranian-led alliance, and the other a violently anti-Israel and anti-American coalition.

Will all these nations turn their backs on cooperating with Christian Europe? Believe it or not, the answer is no!

Shocked and awed over the mighty power of the king of the north’s victory over Iran and its allies, and driven by deep hatred of the Israelite nations, certain Muslim nations in the Middle East will actually ally with a Roman Catholic European power!

This is the general outline of future events the Bible gives for this region of the world!

If you believe these prophecies, you can see where the “Arab Spring” is heading. You can understand why Europe was so eager to intervene in Libya! You can know why the Israeli-Palestinian peace process will not succeed and how it will end!

You can know ahead of time what will happen! That is why the Trumpet was able to forecast the Islamic takeover occurring right now in Egypt 18 years ago, and why we foretold events in Libya and Tunisia. But it is only possible if you believe what the Bible says about these nations.

If this is still not enough to convince, just watch! The fulfillment of these prophecies is rapidly springing forth!

THEM'S FIGHTIN' WORDS!  Conclusion

One of the most common arguments used against the concept of male headship, is the verse "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28. Some argue that since the Scripture declare "there is neither male nor female", this means that the New Testament has done away with the idea of male headship. This is not a valid argument however, and is given by those who have no thorough understanding of this passage.

In order to properly understand any verse of Scripture, we must examine the verses that are around the verse in question. We cannot simply take a single passage out of context, and interpret it by itself. The verse Galatians 3:28, if examined within its proper context, is not talking about headship or authority at all. It is discussing the issue of salvation. So it is absolutely correct, that both men and women have equal access to personal salvation through Jesus Christ, but again, this has nothing to do with the issue of headship. It can also not be properly argued that headship is only an Old Testament concept, because headship is also taught within the Scriptures of the New Testament. "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body." Ephesians 5:23

Some have argued that the concept of male headship promotes dictatorial dominance and exploitation of women, and that such archaic ideas have no place within a modern enlightened society. This also, in my opinion, is not a valid argument. It cannot be denied that the concept of male headship has been cruelly and exploitatively implemented within many situations. A concept cannot be dismissed however, simply because it is sometimes improperly implemented. In order to properly examine a concept we must examine the proper implementation of that concept, and not simply look at the ways in which the concept is used inappropriately. This would be like arguing against good nutrition because so many people employ poor eating habits within their lives.

Like the hierarchy of authority and headship found within the Trinity of God, if properly executed, the hierarchy of authority and headship within human relationships emphasizes love, compassion, respect, honoring the other person, etc. Although it is beyond the scope of this paper to go into in-depth detail concerning exactly how biblical headship should be illustrated among men and women, Scripture is clear on instructing us how to appropriately demonstrate the concept of biblical headship within our own relationships.

  • "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord." Ephesians 5:22
  • "Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing." Ephesians 5:24
  • "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it." Ephesians 5:25
  • "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord." Colossians3:18
  • "Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them." Colossians 3:19
  • "Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives." 1 Peter 3:1
  • "For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands." 1 Peter 3:5
  • "Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered." 1 Peter 3:7

When properly understood and implemented, biblical headship establishes a relationship between men and women that is a beautiful and mutually edifying reflection of the relationship found within the Holy Trinity.

  • "And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17
  • "All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him." Luke 10:22
  • "For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel." John 5:20
  • "That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him." John 5:23
  • "And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." John 8:29

Although the topic of biblical headship is one of the most divisive subjects within Christianity, it need not be if it is properly understood. Rather than ignoring the subject in order to achieve harmony within the body of Christ, we should gain a better and more appropriate understanding, ultimately leading to a greater level of obedience to God's Holy Scriptures. Just as within the Trinity of God, headship among human beings should be loving, respectful, and mutually edifying, and should reflect God's divine order. The subject of headship is not an archaic aspect of primitive culture, but is a relevant feature of God's unlimited knowledge and understanding, and should be embraced among those who call Jesus Christ, Lord.

"Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you." 2 Corinthians 13:11

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3:16

REVIVALIST in CHINA!!
- Jonathan Goforth
-written by David Smithers.

"You must go forward on your knees," was the advice Hudson
Taylor gave to a young Canadian missionary named Jonathan
Goforth. Mr. Goforth faithfully and fervently followed this advice
throughout all has missionary endeavors in China.

Yet, after thirteen years of faithful praying and preaching, and what most would consider a very successful ministry, Goforth became restless and dissatisfied.

It was at this time an unknown party from England began sending pamphlets on the Welsh revival of 1904. Goforth was deeply stirred as he read these accounts. "A new thought, a new conception seemed to come to him of God the Holy Spirit..." He then gave himself to much more prayer and Bible study. Goforth now found himself being driven by a fresh vision, a vision for a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Soon he began to meet daily with other missionaries to pray for
revival. These men vowed to God and to one another that they would pray until revival came to China. In 1908 Jonathan Goforth's prayers and dreams began to be realized. Goforth began going to different missionary stations and simply led his fellow missionaries in prayer. Then suddenly earnest prayer gave way to the open
confession of sin.

It was when the Christians came clean, confessed and forsook their secret sin, that the Holy Spirit rushed in like a mighty wind.

Truly it was this open and honest confession of sin that was the most striking feature of the revival. Everywhere Mr. Goforth went revival would spread, and almost always in the same way. First prayer was encourage among the Christians, which then spontaneously led to heart- breaking confessions of sin.

And then like a flood, the lost were brought into the kingdom by the thousands.  "Men were searched as with fire." One after another broken-hearted believers emptied themselves through the uncovering of all secret sin. Mr. Goforth clearly identified unconfessed sin among Christians as a major hindrance to God-sent revival.

Walter Phillips describes for us one of Mr. Goforth's revival meetings:
"At once, on entering the church one was conscious of something
unusual. The place was crowded to the door and tense, reverent
attention sat on every face. The people knelt for prayer, silent at first, but soon one here and another there began to pray aloud.
The voices grew and gathered volume and blended into a great
wave of united supplication that swelled until it was almost a roar.
Now I understood why the floor was so wet - the very air was electric and strange thrills coarsed up and down ones body."

When Mr. Goforth preached, "The cross burned like a living fire in the heart of every address." It was the person of Jesus Christ who was exalted throughout the entire revival as a King and Savior who
must be reckoned with. In the midst of this great revival Jonathan
Goforth clearly saw that all of his previous sweating and striving had reaped only frustration. He came to the firm conviction that revival is only born through humility, faith, prayer and the power of the Holy Ghost. Goforth writes, "If revival is being withheld from us it is because some idol remains still enthroned; because we still insist in placing our reliance in human schemes; because we still refuse to face the unchangeable truth that 'It is not by might, but by My Spirit.'"
