UCLA Licensee, Kythera, Acquired by Allergan for $2.1B
UCLA licensee, Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, recently announced that they have entered into an agreement to be acquired by Allergan in a cash and equity transaction valued at $75 per Kythera share, or approximately $2.1 billion.

UCLA Startup Announces New X-Ray Product
X-ray technology innovator Tribogenics, announces that it has commercialized the x-ray industry’s first sub $10,000 handheld XRF spectrometer using new proprietary X-ray technology developed in collaboration with DARPA and UCLA. Tribogenics' new technology eliminates the need for expensive, high voltage products by using a process similar to static electricity (triboelectric effect) to generate X-rays.

Anderson Launches Technology Management Center
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UCLA Anderson launches the new Easton Technology Management Center, thanks to gifts from James L. Easton totaling $11 million that will broaden the base of technology opportunities across the UCLA campus. The Center's goal is to position its students to lead and drive change in the rapidly changing tech landscape of California and the world.

UC Tops List of Universities Receiving U.S. Patents
The University of California has been ranked first in the world among universities granted U.S. patents in 2014, according to the latest report by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). The UC system was granted 453 patents in 2014 for discoveries made by its researchers. As of June 2014, the university had 4,448 active U.S. patents in total.
