UCLA Licensee Sofie Biosciences Raises $3.7 Million
Sofie Biosciences, a diagnostics company developing technologies for PET in vivo molecular imaging, recently announced the completion of a $3.7 million financing, representing an oversubscription of nearly $1 million. Positron emission tomography (PET), is a non-invasive, translational imaging technology that quantitatively and safely measures the biology of disease.

UCLA Licensee Opens 43.5K sqft Facility in Los Angeles
The 43,500-square-foot manufacturing plant next to Los Angeles International Airport will support production of engineered CAR and TCR cancer immunotherapies preparations on track to launch lead product candidate KTE-C19 in 2017. Kite Pharma is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company engaged in the development of novel cancer immunotherapy products.

UC Venture Model Gets $22M Funding Boost from State
Each of the UC campuses, plus Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will receive $2 million a year to help spin out companies and products, according to a bill recently approved by California legislators. The initiative is aimed at helping push companies, technologies and products out of academia into the local economies.
