UPD's New Chief
Dr. George E. “Ned” Watson came to Carrollton, Georgia, in 1979 singing opera and playing in the jazz ensemble as a music student at (then) West Georgia College.

Ned’s law enforcement career began when he joined the Department of Public Safety (UWG PD) in 1981 as a security guard. Since that time, he has served the public in many roles as a law enforcement officer in the Carroll County area.

Graduating from St. Leo University with a degree in criminology in 2003, he then earned a master’s degree in public administration from Columbus State University in 2008.

He earned his Ph.D. in 2017 from Capella University and did post-graduate studies at Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command.

Ned is married to Rukiye Watson (Nazan) and has two children, Lauren and Bradley Watson, and two grandchildren, Jace and Griffin.

He still loves music and can be heard singing in church, on campus or in the Carroll County community.
