During the week of Sept. 9, the Center for Business Excellence will offer Travel Policy, Department Approver and ePRO Requester training. To register for a particular training session, please log into DevelopWest and click on Instructor-Led Training on the home page and search for the training in which you wish to enroll.

Smoke/Tobacco-Free Policy
UWG is committed to providing a healthy, comfortable, and productive learning and living environment for the students, faculty, and staff of this campus.

In March 2014, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia voted to create a policy that prohibits the use of all forms of tobacco products on property owned, leased, rented or in the possession of the University System of Georgia (USG). The policy applies to all employees, students, contractors, subcontractors, and visitors and is applicable 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also, all events hosted by a USG-entity or on behalf of the USG shall be tobacco and smoke-free, according to the policy. (See BOR Policy Manual 6.1 “Tobacco and Smoke-free Campuses”.)

UWG has no designated smoking areas on campus. A smoke/tobacco-free campus means that everyone, including guests, is free to travel and visit anywhere on campus without having to avoid potentially health-hazardous situations.

Building a smoke/tobacco-free campus requires the participation of all members of the UWG community. While enforcement is important, please remember to treat all individuals on campus with care and respect. We seek to educate and inform members of the UWG community of the importance of this policy.  Supervisors should enforce this policy for employees in their units at all times. Violations of the policy will be handled under the Student Code of Conduct or campus human resource policies.

For more information, please refer to the UWG Tobacco Free FAQ.

Thank you for helping make UWG a healthy place to work, learn and succeed.

Presidential Search Updates

The UWG Presidential Screen and Search Committee (PSSC) has made tremendous progress this week. The full Presidential Leadership Profile has been posted on our website, and we are requesting that nominations, recommendations and expressions of interest be sent to the search consultants assisting us in this important task at UWGPresident@wittkieffer.com. All interested parties may also be directed toward our nomination form.

Our job advertisements are now up and running at WittKieffer, the Chronicle of Higher Education (print and online), and online at Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, Hispanic Outlook, Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, Women in Higher Education, and with the Association of American Colleges and Universities (link forthcoming).

And most importantly, our committee is ready to hear back from each of you. We ask that you:

  • Submit your individual input using our survey tool found on the UWG Presidential Search homepage or by following this link.

  • Attend one of the 10 upcoming campus and community listening sessions.

  • Invite a PSSC committee member to attend an upcoming meeting as an active listener. The member will submit common-themed questions/concerns to the full committee. Responses to these will be addressed in the “Stay Up-To-Date” area of the website as the search progresses.

  • Connect directly by using the “Contact Us” information posted on the website or by emailing sbdutt@westga.edu with your comments, questions or concerns.

Service Animals on Campus

As a reminder to all employees, please see the service animal information on Counseling Services's website, as outlined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Share this with colleagues as appropriate. Accessibility Services staff are happy to come and do a brief training on service and emotional support animals if this would be helpful to your department.

Please note, the two questions that you may ask a handler about a service animal are:
1) Is the animal a service animal required because of a disability?
2) What work or tasks has the animal been trained to perform?
Any other questions are considered out of bounds under ADA law.

Emotional support animals are NOT permitted in classrooms or other campus buildings, as they are only allowed in residence halls under the Fair Housing Act. Unlike service animals, emotional support animals are not required to have any specific training and as such may be a disturbance on campus.

Purchasing Forum
Purchasing invites faculty and staff to attend the fall Purchasing Forum to hear updates and learn ePRo tips. It will be Oct. 4, in the Coliseum Skybox classroom, from 1-2:30 p.m.
