What a Year!

2017 was amazing, and Vocation Ministry made great strides:

I can’t wait to see what major happenings will occur for Vocation Ministry in 2018! I hope your parish has a Vocation Ministry and is ready to change the culture of your parish, one activity at a time! Let’s get busy praying and doing!

    World Day for Consecrated Life

February 2 (celebrated in parishes February 3-4)

Consider one of these activities at your parish for this event to celebrate the men and women who have said yes to serving Christ with their lives:

      1. Ask the parish liturgy coordinator to place a prayer petition for consecrated men and women in the Prayers of the Faithful. You can find these and the banner in #3 at www.vocationministry.com, Phase II, under affirmation.

      2. Take up a gift card collection, and send them with a card to those consecrated men and women from your own parish. If you don’t have any, send them to a nearby convent or monastery.

      3. Display the Banner at www.vocationministry.com (right)

      4. Obtain posters of the consecrated in formation from the Office of Vocations, to place at each parish entrance. If they don’t produce them, consider displaying one of these posters.

      5. Submit this short Bulletin Blurb for that Sunday:

We celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life today. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, especially our own parishioners __________ and __________. Be sure to thank them on this special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God's gift of their vocation.

      6. Ask consecrated men or women, which includes religious sisters and brothers, to speak after Mass, at reception, at a school assembly, and/or at youth ministry event.

      7. If you don’t have any consecrated men or women in your area who can visit, consider playing one of the many videos at www.vocationministry.com, Phase II, that show consecrated life in a beautiful, inspiring and instructive way.

      8. Ask parishioners to pray for each of the consecrated men and women.

      9. If your parish VM is operating in Phase III or IV, consider running Called By Name, which you can find in detail in Hundredfold and on www.vocationministry.com.

      World Marriage Day

        February 11, 2018

I am so excited about World Marriage Day this year, as it is the first time that parishes can use the 2nd edition of Hundredfold and the resources at www.vocationministry.com to hold any number of activities. Here are a few ideas:

        Phase I:

        1. Download and Print out a Marriage Prayer that can be given to each married couple after Mass.
        2. Ask your priest to bless the married couples attending Mass on that day.
        3. The priest or deacon at Mass asks all married couples to stand up, and then he asks those married 5 years or less to sit down, continuing until he finds the couple married the longest.

        Phase II:

        1. Download and print out a prayer for engaged couples at your parish.
        2. At a youth ministry event, all the adults working with the teens who are married could speak for a moment about the joys of marriage.

        Phase III:

        1. Launch a marriage enrichment program at your parish, like The Choice Wine!
        2. Launch a new marriage preparation at your parish, like Witness to Love!

        Phase IV:

        1. Hold a Renewal of Vows Ceremony at your parish for all married couples.
        2. A married couple can be the main speakers at a Marriage event
        3. Hold a reception for married couples, which can include a dance!
        4. Hold a Senior Prom, which can be put on by the youth, for all those married 50 years or more!
