Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh (阮氏芳玲), known as Lynn Nguyen, joins as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Taiwan of Science and Technology (NTUST) in 2026.
Dr. Nguyen earned her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) (2018-2022). Her doctoral research pioneered the application of machine learning (ML) to reduce uncertainty in atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanomechanical measurements. By identifying critical features within force-displacement curves, the proposed method enabled accurate contact model selection and elastic modulus predictions without requiring prior tip-shape knowledge and traditional contact model needed. Her first ML paper was listed at the top of the most downloaded articles in 90 days in the European Journal of Mechanics-A/Solids (2022) and mentioned in the AZO Materials journal editorial feature, together with NCKU News.
Following her doctorate, Dr. Nguyen served as an NCKU Postdoctoral Researcher (2022-2023), working on the research topic of impact hydrodynamic lubrication analysis of transversely isotropic materials in point contact.Transitioning to industry from 2023 to 2026, Dr. Nguyen is a Metrology Scientist at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). There, she works on developing advanced metrology solutions and resolving critical inline issues across multiple leading-edge technology nodes. |
