Ball State University's Department of Construction Management and Interior Design sits inside the R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning in Muncie, Indiana. It brings two closely related disciplines under one roof (the people who build the spaces we live and work in, and the people who shape how those spaces look and function). Students develop high-demand technical skills while fueling a creative practice, learning from a nationally recognized faculty who work in their professions as well as in the classroom.

The department's majors, Construction Management and Interior Design, are each available as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science and each paired with a matching minor. Construction management majors also complete a minor in business administration. Graduate study continues fully online, through a master's degree in interior design and a graduate certificate in the planning and design of healthcare environments. The programs carry the field's benchmark accreditations. Construction Management is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), and the Interior Design programs are recognized by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). For families weighing a path in the built environment, those accreditations are a useful signal of program quality and of eligibility for professional credentials after graduation.

Learning is hands-on. Construction management teams recently earned top honors at the national New Builders Competition, and students work in the department's own spaces, including the University Design Center studios, a Health and Environmental Design Research lab, and the Architecture Library. Internships, an alumni network that spans the country, and visits from working professionals (a recent example being New York interior designer and Ball State alumnus Neal Beckstedt) connect classroom work to the industry students will enter.

|
Both fields face real, lasting demand. The construction industry has spent decades working through an aging workforce and the need for broader participation, and interior design keeps expanding into specialized areas like healthcare, where thoughtful spaces measurably affect how people heal and feel. For students drawn to problem-solving, design, and the satisfaction of seeing a project built, the department provides a grounded, accredited route into careers with room to grow.
