International Paratuberculosis Conference, Sydney 2012

Dick Sibley and Peter Orpin presented papers at the International ParaTb conference in Sydney.
The papers presented by the  UK  team focussed on the engagement program led by Dairy UK and the successes in the regions with veterinary led control and protection plans
Six full days of intensive CPD covering new tests, human health risks, control program combined with an opportunity to talk to the leading experts in the field from around the world made for a fantastic week in Sydney.
The range of approaches from each country varied markedly from zero tolerance in Japan to   state funded control in an increasing number of countries.

Johne's Training Opportunities for Vets

Professor Soren Nielsen is delivering two one day courses at Knutsford and Taunton on the Strategic Control of Johne's disease.
The key focus will be on the successes of the Danish Quarterly testing program for control of Johne's disease. The lessons learned and the importance of compliance will be the key issues of the day. The course is aimed at the Johne's Champion within the practice who has attended previous Johne's training and is actively involved in practical Johne's control. The meetings will be interactive and also feature some new developments in the tools used to manage Johne's disease. The Myhealthyherd team will be demonstrating the new Robustness module which will ensure that your plans will work. NML will be focusing on the new reports to track progress with your Herdwise control plans. At the end of the day you will be fully conversant with the most important elements of effective Johne's control.

Promoting the North West Johne's program to your farmers:

Vets in the North West can now get funding for implementing Johne's control programs for their clients.
We have conducted some farmer meetings for practices which have successfully engaged about a third of the attending producers with NWDAJohne's control programs. The use of an external speaker lends gravitas to the event and allows the practice vets to focus on their clients on the night.
This generates a real win win. A sustainable health platform for the farmer and appropriate reward for the vet.
There are also opportunities for sponsorship in certain counties.
