Myhealthyherd 5th Birthday!
Volume 1, Newsletter 7  November-2012
Come and see us at BCVA Congress and join us for our 5th Birthday.
Happy 5th Birthday Myhealthyherd!
The inception of Myhealthyherd was 5 years ago at the BCVA Congress in Torquay.. The idea was developed over a beer with Jo Brownlie and centred on creating a traffic light scoring system to assist with the classification of disease status.
The programme was further developed to include a Health Planner which could be shared between the vet and the farmer.
Andy Biggs, the  BCVA president, saw that there was a synergism that could be developed between Myhealthyherd and NMR who were also keen to be involved in helping vets with health planning and disease management.
The programme has developed to create the first web based Johne's management program which has assisted over 3400 herds with risk management and control of this insidious disease.
The development of the email alerts and surveillance database has simplified and enhanced lab reporting for practices allowing labs and practices to upload lab results creating a secure shared surveillance database for farmers.
Opportunities have been created for over 1000 farmers within the North West to evaluate the profit opportunities of health improvements providing a springboard for capital improvements for many farms.
The Johne's, BVD and Pneumonia workstreams within the Healthy Livestock Program have been over subscribed in the South West with over 2000 farms committing to these programs. Vets have been paid to create a "predict and prevent" disease control programs for their farmer clients thus improving the health and economic outcomes for the region.
What lies ahead? More opportunities for vets and farmers to work together to improve health. There is plenty to do......
BCVA Congress- What's new?
Come and see us at BCVA. This year we will be focussing on Health Management and how to make this pay.
We have gathered some thoughts on how different business models can be employed to help develop Health Management approaches within your practice.
We are also in latter stages of refining the Health Planner module to allow improved target setting, performance measuring and priority setting for beef and dairy herds.
The new workflow created will create a logical platform for vets and farmers to use to not only create a robust "Red Tractor" compliant plan but also a platform for dynamic health management of the herd.
We have also concluded some observational research on Traumatic Recumbency ( "Splits") in 234 herds and are presenting the initial findings during the practitioner presentations on Saturday.
Visit the stand and help shape the future of Myhealthyherd for you and your clients.
