Help with Careers and Digital Literacy in the Library's Computer Lab

The Library offers Career Connections assistance and Digital Literacy classes in the Computer Lab. These services are free and are open to all Plainfield Library patrons in good standing. (Credentials and testing may be free for qualified participants.)

Get in-depth advice on job searches, resumes and interview techniques, or gain valuable credentials in Digital Literacy that can help you show employers you have the capability to successfully use computers in the workplace.

The Digital Literacy program offers the IC3 qualification, which shows that the student has good basic understanding of computers and how to use them. Participants have the option of working steadily through the IC3 coursework over time, or for more experienced candidates, why not embark on a fast track program and gain your IC3 in around 40 hours? The program also offers Microsoft Office Professional qualifications for those ready to take on the course, and patrons can also use online services like Lynda.com and Rosetta Stone to cover specific IT training needs and brush up on language skills.

The Career Connections program offers support to those who are seeking employment or are seeking a career change. www.careerconnections.nj.gov forms the core of a suite of useful skills and advice that can help participants succeed in their career journey. Staff are on-hand for Career Connections hours specifically to assist with careers-related tasks and offer tailored advice to participants.

These service segue with the Library's other Adult Literacy programs, providing free services to the public to assist them in establishing useful skills for life and work.

Career Connections and Digital Literacy services are made possible through grants from the New Jersey Dept of Work and Labor.

Please consult the department's job search and certification leaflet to find out more about services available, and take a look at the Computer Training webpage to see further details about schedules and services available.

If you would prefer to get in touch for more detail about these services, please contact the Library's Adult Literacy department at 908-757-1111 x122 or email literacy@plfdpl.info.
