From the Desk of the Director...
 |
As we all look forward to the greening of spring and anticipate better weather and the ability to take part in outside activities, the Library is also looking to move forward.
Things have changed here over the past month. Tina Doody, our Assistant Director has moved on and become a Director at another library. Our new Assistant Director, Claudia Flores, will start on April 4 and may be familiar to some of you. I hope as you see her around the building you will make her feel welcome.
On another note, it’s been a while since we updated our strategic plan for the Library and so we are going to move forward on this in 2022. Please watch for postings in our newsletter, the Library website, Facebook, and TapInto as we post survey questions and ask for members of the public to be in focus groups.
This is your chance to be part of the planning “think tank”. To participate, all you need are ideas and opinions. So the main question is, “What do you want to see at your Library?” Have you wanted a service that you have seen other places but not here? Would you like different programming? Are you interested in different types of classes? Be on the lookout for our call for participants for surveys or in-person discussion groups. Let’s work together to make this Library the best it can be!
Until next month!

There's a lot going on at the Library and we don't want you to miss out on any of it. That's why we now have a better calendar system that will allow you to see more detail about our events much more easily.
The new calendar also allows you to do things like subscribing to our calendar in your own service or share stuff with friends in a useful way, or use working links to join Zoom meetings, YouTube events or Facebook Live broadcasts, right alongside the details and times.
and we'll be making extensive use of it for upcoming events at the Library from now on.
When we're able to open up our meeting rooms publicly, you'll be able to use the system to reserve a meeting room. For the time being, the Library's free-to-use Zoom accounts are bookable for your virtual meetings, here:
Please join us for one of our many programs, crafts and events, and consider checking in regularly or even subscribing to our events calendar! |

Natural Dyes: Dyeing Eggs and Other Things
Live Webinar: 7-8pm on April 13, via Zoom

Zoom link:
https://tinyurl.com/plfd-dyes-2022
At this time of year, while some people are dyeing eggs, the topic of natural dyes comes up. While dyeing whole pieces of fabric or skeins of yarn with chemicals may be intimidating, experimenting with smaller items, such as wood beads, small pieces of yarn, or eggs can be a great way to play with natural dye methods.
We'll be discussing and demonstrating how to use 3 different food-safe natural dyestuffs: onion skins, turmeric, and cochineal, dyeing wood beads, yarn, and, if you wish, eggs. All supplies
except eggs will provided in a kit that can be picked up at the Library, on April 12th or 13th.
This craft is open to both teen and adult attendees.
Questions? Email ref@plfdpl.info or call 908-757-1111, ext. 112
Pick up your free kit with all supplies at the Library on Tuesday, April 12th, 1-5pm or Wednesday, April 13th. Join the live presentation Wednesday, April 13th at 8pm.
The live presentation will be recorded and posted to the Library’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/PlainfieldPublicLibrary

Live Daily Serial continues every Weekday at 2pm.
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, by Jules Verne
We just started a brand new serial (as of Monday, March 28th) featuring Captain Nemo, the
Nautilus, and a huge supporting cast of sea monsters, ruthless (& doubtless moustachio-twirling) villains, and assorted other terrors of the deep. It can only mean that we're serializing Jules Verne's classic adventure (and sci-fi precursor) Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea!
If you like your literary heroes enigmatic, and your monsters terrifying and many-tentacled, you couldn't make a finer choice, so join us live each weekday at 2pm on our Facebook page, or check out recorded episodes and playlists!
Most of the books we've read/will read are available as e-books from eLibrary NJ or at the Library. Grab your copy and read along for free!
The stream goes live on our Facebook page at the same time each weekday from 2pm to 2:30pm. Please head on over to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/PlainfieldPublicLibrary to join us!
Previous episodes - now as playlists!
We've been doing live serialization for a couple of years now and have amassed a fair number of 'back issues' to facilitate viewers' perusal of previous series.
So far, you can check out playlists featuring serializations of:
