From the Desk of the Director...
This month I want to take a break from our traditional library news to focus on our staff. Our staff here at the Library are our greatest resources. They work hard for the community using their skills and imagination to make the Library a place where you come to enjoy everything we have to offer. As Timothy Healy, former President of the New York Public Library stated so well, “The most important asset of any library goes home at night – the library staff”.
One of our “most important assets”, Rosa Nicks,
(pictured right) from our Literacy Department, was honored in March by the NAACP with the Women’s History Month Award. Rosa works tirelessly for the Plainfield community assisting our GED students to complete their program and eventually receive their GED. You could not get a better cheerleader, advocate and sometime “mom” to encourage all our students.
Kudos to Rosa for all her hard work and her award. Come visit us and Rosa at the Library.
As always,
Mary Ellen

The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Early American Women and Their Kitchen Gardens
Saturday, April 13, 2024
10:30AM via Zoom
Kitchen gardens in the 1700's fed, healed, and clothed Early American families. The 18th century "huswife" skill set included "physicke, cookery, distillation, perfumery, the making of wool, hemp, flax, dayries, brewing, baking," and, of course - gardening. Growing plants both Native American and from their homelands, these women turned their soup pots into the "melting pot" that is America and exemplified all the best qualities of plantswomen and patriots.
