From the Desk of the Director...
We, at the Library, view our role as that of community anchor and local facilitator for education, entertainment and business needs. Recently we have made some changes and will be making more, that will assist not only our general public but businesses and entrepreneurs as well.
We have added a free fax service to our scan and copy services, making easy to send documents in a variety of ways. Our notary and passport services add another level of service for the community. Think of us as a one-stop service. You can even have your picture taken for the passports!
If computer training is what you need, please come, see our offerings and sign-up for classes. They are now available in both English and Spanish. You can also take computer training that will give you certifications that you can add to your resume.
If you are looking for classes in citizenship, go no further. Our Literacy Department has the class for you. Not only will you study for the test but you will be able to participate in mock interviews to prepare you for the actual day.
Education doesn’t end there. If you need your GED and are having trouble with certain subject areas, take our GED prep classes. Our tutors are great at helping you get through so you can finally take the test. You will also have the best cheerleader in the City! Miss Rosa takes a personal interest in her students and guides them through, encouraging at every step.
All this in addition to the wonderful programming, books, databases and audiovisual materials that we have for you. And most of all, don’t forget us, we are always here to lend a hand and a smile.
Come see us, we have so much to offer.
Mary Ellen Rogan

Friends of Friends: Quakers and African American Communities
Saturday, August 26 at 10:30AM via Zoom
Register: https://tinyurl.com/PPLGen230826
Well-known for their anti-slavery views, Quakers began to migrate to the slave-free territories in the 19th century. As they migrated out of the South, Quakers emancipated and traveled with their newly freed slaves. Once settled, the sect continued their abolitionist cause by supporting the Underground Railroad – transporting runaway slaves to free states. In turn, free Blacks established their own settlements, while still maintaining ties with the Quaker community.

Look out for our upcoming Summer Reading Fair! Lots of family fun with crafts and gaming AND mark your calendars because the Summer Reading Fair is the time to pick up all the prizes that kids earned over Summer Reading. Yes, the end of our Summer Reading programming is coming, but children can still register to take part in the Summer Reading challenge and get points and prizes for the books they read, through our Beanstack portal.
As always, you can check in to our live Library Calendar to see what's going on at the Library, or take a peek at the programs coming up. Our programs don't come to an end though, you'll still continue to find your favorites as part of our ongoing roster of fun educational things for kids and their grown-ups to enjoy together. |
