How Kids Live In West Africa

  Saturday 02/07/15
2:00 PM
Anne Louise Davis Room

Phil Passantino, Storyteller & Musician, recently traveled to the West African country of Mali. He'll show his short film of how children live in West Africa. They're just like American kids in so many ways. And you have never seen bigger smiles! Participants will get to play some unique African instruments, hear fun West African folk tales, and see a more positive image of Africa than is usually portrayed in the media.

New Online Services!

We are pleased to announce that the library now offers the Pronunciator and TumbleBooks as part of our Online Databases!

Pronunciator is an online language-learning system. One of the great things about Pronunciator is that you can learn any language, in virtually any other language. Pronunciator offers the largest ESL curriculum on the planet, with courses for 50 non-English languages!

The TumbleBook Library is an online collection of  animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

Write To Our Legislators

Legislation has been introduced into the New Jersey Assembly that is important for the Plainfield Public Library. Your support is needed, whether through personal contacts with legislators or general letters of support.

A3966 - Construction funds
We have two construction projects lined up, one for exterior renovations at $500,000 (funded through the City's capital Improvement Program) and the second for interior renovations, at a cost tbd. Passage of this bill at a 1 to 1 match would stretch our dollars significantly. For a current list of sponsors see the NJLA Advocacy page at: http://njla.org/legislative-updates and look under the bill number.
