On Dec. 17th the Adult Literacy department held its holiday student get-together to celebrate all of their wonderful accomplishments this year!

Participants enjoyed a slice of cake and live entertainment, marking their success in a range of vital skills and achievements crucial to success in the U.S.A.

This summer will mark the Adult Literacy Department’s 25th anniversary.

Over the last 25 years, the Adult Literacy Program of the Plainfield Public Library has helped over 5,000 Adult Learners to:

Learn English

Become a Tutor! Change a Life!
For our 25th anniversary, the Adult Literacy Department invites you to join our family as a student, a tutor, or a donor.

become a tutor

Volunteering with the Adult Literacy Department is an opportunity to make a big difference where it matters. Your skills could help change someone's life.

Why not volunteer to tutor small ESL, Basic Literacy, and GED classes as part of the Adult Literacy team?

Training, curriculum, and materials provided.

Your commitment means:

  • A parent will be able to read a note from his/her child’s teacher.
  • Someone will be able to fill out an application and get a job.
  • An immigrant will become a citizen.
  • You will change someone’s life!

We will start a new round of tutor training this February. We are looking for people with Tuesday night availability, though anyone is welcome, and the trainings will be on Saturday mornings.

On February 11, join exhibit curators Loreen Williamson and Pamela Thomas for a special talk about the importance of the materials found in the exhibition.

This program is open and free to the public. Families Welcome!
