Continued Partnerships with New Jersey Department of Labor Provides FREE GED, IC3, and Microsoft Office Specialist Preparation as well as Job Search Assistance

TESTING FEES COVERED FOR QUALIFIED PARTICIPANTS
The Plainfield Public Library is pleased to announce that we are once again partnering with New Jersey Labor and Workforce Development through the Adult Literacy & Community Library Partnership program. Joining the Library in this $97,000 grant are the Union County One Stops, Union County Workforce Investment Board, Union County County College, and the City of Plainfield.

This grant focuses on increasing access to industry valued skills and credentials by funding expanded training opportunities for obtaining a GED, a Microsoft Office Specialist certificate or an IC3 certificate. This training is free, and program participants who are test ready will have their testing fees paid for (while funds allow). Additionally, the city will help clients who are unable to attend training, due to childcare and transportation issues, to find programs they may qualify for to assist them in attending.

On top of all of this, the Library have hired a full-time bilingual staff member to help all of our clients make use of our computer lab’s electronic resources to assist in job seeking, skill training, GED prep, and English Language Learning.

If you, or someone you know could benefit from these services, please contact the Adult Literacy Department.

Help us deliver these services by volunteering as a tutor. No prior experience necessary, training provided! For more information, email or call the Adult Literacy Office at (908) 757-1111 ext. 122.

New Classroom Technology
Due to funding from the Plainfield Foundation and New Jersey Department of Labor, the Library has been able to outfit its meeting rooms with state of the art classroom technology to support its community education activities.

Did You Know?

When the city dedicated the current Plainfield Public Library building on April 21, 1968, the main floor reading room was named in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. It is officially known as the "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Reading Room." The commemorative plaque still hangs next to the Circulation Desk. The dedication coincided with National Library Week that year, and special guests included U.S. Sentor Harrison Williams, Representative Florence P. Dwyer, and Assemblyman Peter J. McDonough III.
